Chapter Vol. 1 Ch. 97
Chapter 097: Cowardly Escape
Ning Chu hadn't even left yet, and already Wen Yang was getting cozy with someone else!
If she were to actually leave, what would happen then?!
She stared at Wen Yang with an intense gaze, but after a moment, her expression grew somber, and she lowered her head. "Never mind, do what you want."
Wen Yang’s words felt like a deliberate attempt to make her worry and convince her to stay.
Even if that were true, how the story would unfold after she left would be beyond her control.
It wasn’t like Wen Yang would suddenly materialize in her rented apartment in another city while she was taking a shower and just happen to burst in, right?
"I’m not drinking either; I have something to take care of tonight."
Ning Chu was startled and turned to look at Zhang Shaoqing.
This guy loved nothing more than pairing barbecue with a couple of beers, but today he wasn’t drinking?
Meeting her questioning gaze, Zhang Shaoqing muttered, “It’s time to settle things with Lingling.”
“!!!”
Ning Chu’s eyebrows furrowed as the image of a typical blond-haired villain flashed in her mind. She couldn’t help but scold him, “Are you crazy?! That was ages ago! Just find someone else!”
“I’ve liked her for over ten years. Finding someone else won’t change that she’s not her.”
“You…” Ning Chu’s chest rose and fell with frustration. She took a deep breath to calm herself, rolling her eyes. “You’re just trying to piss me off.”
She picked up a skewer of chicken, but just as she took a bite, another situation arose with Wang Jie.
“If none of you are drinking, then I’ll have some.” Wang Jie proactively opened the case of beer and set a bottle on the table.
“And what’s your deal?”
“I... I... I got the worst possible outcome again, and I’m feeling down.”
“...”
Great, just great. All of you are either geniuses or idiots!
Ning Chu couldn’t be bothered with them. It was obvious they had conspired to keep her in the dorm by throwing these problems at her.
Because she’d disrupted the storyline before, she’d given her roommates the impression that she was a meddlesome, caring big sister. These fools actually believed she was that kind of person!
She shouldn’t have said so much earlier, letting slip that she didn’t intend to return.
Seeing her silent and focused on eating the barbecue, the three men exchanged glances.
But Zhang Shaoqing couldn’t hold back any longer and started cursing, “What’s your problem? Acting like you’re leaving and not coming back! Are you dropping out of college?”
Wen Yang tried to stop him, but he kept ranting, “If something’s wrong at home, just say so! Why are you holding back? If you’ve got a problem, let’s talk it out! What’s the point of sulking?”
“...”
“Is someone sick at home? Need money? I’ve got cash!”@@novelbin@@
He slapped the table. “Tell me, how much?”
Wen Yang sighed, “It’s probably not about money.”
It was obvious Ning Chu had exposed her gender and now felt she couldn’t stay in the dorm. But the other two didn’t know, and he couldn’t say anything.
“Then I can’t help. Let’s just eat,” Zhang Shaoqing grumbled as he sat back down.
“Can’t you stay?” Wang Jie muttered, “It’ll feel weird with one less person in the dorm.”
Ning Chu let out a long, soft sigh.
“Forget it. Stop trying to convince me.”
After taking a few more bites, Ning Chu stood up, grabbed her suitcase from beside the wardrobe, and turned to leave. “I’m leaving!”
“I’ll walk you out!”
“No need!”
Ning Chu intentionally used a cheerful tone to hide the sadness in her heart. She walked out, closing the door behind her, but then paused in the hallway, looking back at the door number with a sense of reluctance.
It’s only been two months...
She sighed softly, pulling her suitcase as she headed downstairs.
In these two months, the soul from another world had integrated into this dormitory, and the 160cm boy had turned into a girl.
It was time to go.
The dormitory was almost empty as it neared eleven at night. There weren’t many students in the hallway, and as Ning Chu passed the lobby on the first floor, she saw the dorm supervisor chatting with his girlfriend.
“What are you doing out this late? The doors close at eleven!”
“I’m heading home; I got permission!”
“Where’s your leave slip?”
“...” Ning Chu quickly changed her tune. “I’ll bring it to you when I return tomorrow. I’ve already informed the counselor.”
After a brief exchange, she stepped out of the dormitory.
The sky was dark, with no stars or moon visible, just an oppressive blackness like a giant curtain blocking out the world.
Occasionally, she could still hear the laughter of students behind her, but in front of her was only the dim light of streetlamps, leading into deep, inky darkness.
Ning Chu stopped in her tracks, looking around anxiously, one hand resting on her lower abdomen.
She pressed her lips together, her eyes filled with caution.
“Could it really be happening this soon?”
The night wind blew against her, sending a shiver down her spine. She pulled her suitcase and hurried toward the gate.
After taking ten or so steps, she abruptly looked back.
It felt as though a pair of eyes were fixed on her back, sending chills down her spine.
A deep sense of unease wrapped around her, making her walk faster and faster, her gaze darting to every corner. She was on the verge of breaking down, not realizing how terrifying it would be to travel alone.
A student approached her, head down, absorbed in his phone, walking straight toward her.
Ning Chu froze, her steps faltering. She stared at him nervously, slowly backing away until the student disappeared around a corner.
That was scary!
What if something jumped out from the bushes? What if a passerby suddenly attacked her? And what about the hotel she planned to stay at tonight? That place was even riskier! Whether in cheesy novels or real life, places like that were a disaster waiting to happen.
“At night…”
“Yeah, at night, maybe you shouldn’t go.”
“!!!”
Ning Chu jumped, startled, only to see Wen Yang casually walking out from the corner. “You wouldn’t let me see you off, so I had to follow behind.”
“It’s dangerous to be out at night, especially since you’re afraid of the dark.”
The moment she saw Wen Yang, all the anxiety that had been weighing on her lifted, her tense nerves gradually relaxing. Even the chill in her body seemed to dissipate.
She looked at Wen Yang, who stood a short distance away, then quickly lowered her head, taking small, hurried steps toward him. “I still have to go...”
Standing next to Wen Yang, she took a deep breath of his scent, feeling her body relax as a familiar sense of safety returned.
“Why do you have to go? You were fine staying before.”
“You know I’m a girl... what if you suddenly...”
Wen Yang couldn’t help but laugh. “Come on, do I seem like that kind of person?”
Yes! You absolutely do!
“Men can do anything when they’re driven by impulse.”
“Even rabbits don’t eat the grass near their burrow.” He stepped closer with a smile. “I promise I won’t tell the other two about you, and I won’t do anything to you. Just come back.”
“I... I’ll have to leave eventually. Am I supposed to stay in the boys’ dorm for all four years?”
Wen Yang relented slightly. “How about this, leave tomorrow? It’s dangerous for you to go out alone this late, and I’ll be worried.”
“...”
With that, he picked up her suitcase and gestured for her to follow. “Let’s go back. It’s just one more night.”
“Oh...”
Ning Chu pressed her lips together, lowered her head, and took small, quick steps to follow closely behind Wen Yang.
What do you think?
