Chapter 312 Quake [1]
As the corruption from the figure dripped to the floor before eventually disintegrating and disappearing from sight, Alya turned to Lily with a confused expression.
"Wasn't he supposed to...you know, tell you what he found?"
Letting out an audible sigh, Lily turned around to face the gap that led outside into the underground space.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"People like him only care about doing things themselves despite having countless people they can call on to help. They're allergic to any form of working together, even in near-death scenarios like this."
Following Lily's gaze, Alya also stared at the gap before countering back.
"Is that a bad thing? All the responsibility falls on him if he fails, and t-"
Interrupting Alya mid-sentence, Lily said in a calm voice.
"He doesn't get any of the glory if he succeeds."
"And it's working alone isn't a bad thing, especially if it works every time."
"However, we, humans, are naturally imperfect and, eventually, he will make a mistake."
"And that one mistake could cause the death of millions, perhaps the entire world. That one mistake, which could have been easily avoided if he called for help, will happen eventually."
"He could have millions of victories, but eventually, there will be one small slip-up that destroys everything."
Trying to comprehend Lily's cryptic words, Alya shook her head before replying.
"So, now, what? It seems like he has a plan that involves the destroying of magical artifacts based on the question he asked you. Do we just sit back and let him do it?"
Stretching her hands above her head, Lily cracked her neck...before simply turning back around to face the shelves.
Then, while picking up the last artifact on the shelf, Lily simply responded.
"I guess so. We don't have much of a choice anyway. He's not gonna listen if we interfere or ask, and if we try to stop him, he'll somehow get past us and cause more chaos than necessary."
"There's no point in doing anything besides just watching from the sidelines in this situation."
Hesitating for a moment to gather her breath, Alya closed and opened her eyes for a few seconds before saying in an eerily calm voice.
"You're not making sense, Lily."
Turning around and making eye contact with Lily, Alya's tone turned to panicked as she rapidly continued.
"YOU SAID IT YOURSELF...HE'S GOING TO MAKE A MISTAKE EVENTUALLY, RIGHT!?"
"WHAT IF THAT MISTAKE IN HIS PLAN HAPPENS NOW? THERE'S A BEAST CAPABLE OF DESTROYING AN ENTIRE CITY IN SECONDS IN THERE!"
"THIS ISN'T SOME GAME WITH REDOS WHERE HE CAN JUST TRY AGAIN IF HE MAKES A MISTAKE."
Reeling in her emotions, Alya took a deep breath and exhaled out before saying,
"So...we're just going to watch and pray to the gods that his plan works without any mistakes."
Paying no attention to Alya's panicked voice, Lily simply nodded her head before placing the artifact on the ground.
"He won't make a mistake this time."
Even more confused now, Alya stood there silent for a few seconds and eventually responded.
"And, how do you know t-"
*RUMBLE*
However, before Alya could finish her question, the floor of the underground space began to shake as if there was an earthquake.
Jumping up, seemingly ready for the circumstance, Kazuki and Kankei immediately took out their weapons before pointing them in opposite directions.
A second later, Liam and the rest of the main cast also reacted, running to the middle of the room and creating a circle where they were all facing in different directions.
And amongst that circle, Ruby could be seen right next to Irene with her wand out, having managed to get back into the vault while everyone was equipping their weapons.
With their weapons and heads all facing in different directions, the main cast carefully awaited any sign of the intruder.
There was also Raven and Zeng... who had run to the corner of the room at the first sign of danger.
Pushing a couple of empty shelves out of the way, Raven and Zeng sat in the corner of the vault with their backs to the vault wall while they crouched downwards.
Realizing they were still susceptible to attacks, Raven immediately stood up and gestured for Zeng to help him.
Within a couple of seconds, the two boys had created a barricade of empty shelves that separated the rest of the vault from the small corner where they were hiding.
If Ren saw their position right now, he would have yelled and facepalmed at the two boys' actions.
Not because they had decided to hide like cowards instead of attempting to fight the intruder like everyone else, though.
The old him would have done the same.
But...because they had decided to use shelves as barricades!
People could quite literally cut through metal like it was butter and create explosive spells that could craters as big as an entire city...yet these boys had used simple shelves as protection!?
They would have been better off with nothing!
With the main cast's circle formation in the middle and the two recruiters, who were wandering around the room, every angle of the room was being watched.
Thus, within a few seconds, a figure was spotted in the right corner of the vault, hanging from the ceiling with a clean pitch-black bow in his hands.
Spotting the figure first, Irene immediately began casting spells while simultaneously yelling.
"I FOUND HIM, UPPER RIGHT CORNER!"
As Irene's words echoed throughout the silent vault, everyone's heads flicked toward the ceiling like pigeons who had just spotted a piece of food.
In unison, three wands began to shine with vibrant colors, and six other figures could be seen sprinting toward the right corner of the room.
Being the closest to the corner at the time of Irene's words, Kaneki activated his transportation ability.
Phasing through the various shelves in the way, Kaneki reappeared with his katana, right below the figure hanging from the ceiling, who hadn't moved an inch despite knowing he was spotted.
