Chapter 41
Kaysen flinched. The gaze Marceau cast on him while nestled in Darcy's arms felt strangely unfamiliar today.
"You’re someone who can’t even accept that I’ve changed."
Her reproachful tone stirred a sense of guilt in him. Despite his emotionless face and the low, distant look in his eyes, his conscience began to stir.
People don’t change easily. Kaysen, who had spent more years in the gutter than in the palace, knew this all too well. The experiences that had shaped him also solidified the beliefs that now underpinned his worldview.
He had heard the rumors that the misunderstanding between Ryan and Marceau had been resolved. He initially dismissed it as something Marceau made up, but to his surprise, Ryan didn’t deny it.
‘Let’s not bring this up again.’
That was all Ryan had said, with an air of discomfort.
Can people really change?
Kaysen’s brow furrowed as he sank deeper into thought. He glanced at Marceau out of the corner of his eye.
At that moment, Marceau, who had been looking at him with something akin to disdain, met his gaze. With a calm expression, she murmured,
"Today must have been emotionally challenging for you. It’s better if I understand you with a broad mind."
The words, spoken with a cutting edge, made Kaysen’s blood boil. His lips twitched with frustration.
Emotional wounds? The Marquis had no choice but to follow Ryan because of his knowledge of the palace.@@novelbin@@
Recently, Kaysen had shared more genuine conversations with Leshuan. He thought he still had a chance…
What do you think?
