Chapter 210
Ezra said he escaped because he wanted to meet me.
Ethan, who had been tying my bootlaces, slowly rose to his feet at those words. Ezra, noticing the shift in atmosphere, immediately took a step back, wary.
"What, again? What now?"
Ethan simply shrugged, ignoring him, and turned to me.
"Go on. Don’t mind me."
How am I supposed to not mind you when you’re glaring like that…?
Ezra hesitated, glancing between us, but eventually continued.
"I wanted to know who else had survived after drinking the spring water. More specifically, I wanted to see Sinclair. All I had was a name."
His piercing blue eyes slowly scanned me and Ethan, lingering with an unreadable expression.
Ezra was full of mysteries. He always felt like an observer, someone watching from the sidelines, never truly part of the chaos around him.
"Oh, and one more thing. The Duke of Lancaster doesn’t have any spring water. I was looking for it. That’s why I escaped."
I wiped the sweat trickling down my temple with the back of my hand.@@novelbin@@
My body felt cold, yet I was sweating.
That was strange.
Hugging my arms around myself, I asked,
"Why are you looking for the spring water?"
"Because if it dries up, I’ll die. And so will you, Cherry. The spring water runs through our bodies, remember?"
"…What? Right. The spring water flows in us. So… dying… dying…"
What? If the spring water dries up, I’ll die too?
I stiffened, unable to properly respond. The revelation hit like a hammer.
Wait, the Duke of Lancaster would drain the spring dry if it meant furthering his experiments.
That meant if he ever got his hands on the underground spring here, I would wither and die along with it.
Protecting the spring water wasn’t just about saving the world—it was about saving myself.
The realization sent my mind spinning. My vision blurred for a moment, dizziness washing over me like a wave.
What do you think?
