The Male Leads Are Trapped in My House

Chapter 2

I should’ve remembered my past life before the incident happened.

By now, the virus was probably already spreading—gradually, but everywhere.

‘Would anyone even believe me if I told them about this?’

People were certainly interested in me, but not in a positive way.

If anything, I was just a walking gossip headline, someone no one trusted.

‘I wouldn’t believe me either.’

Damn it. At this point, there was only one way to save my life.

‘This is no time to be lying around in bed!’

I had to build a bunker—a shelter where I could hide and defend myself from the monsters that would appear after the world fell apart.

Even though the novel was discontinued, I still remembered most of the plot. As long as I prepared well, I could survive.

And most importantly, I had money.

People always say you can’t buy time, but that’s just because they don’t have enough money. If I poured all my resources into it, I could save time and build the shelter faster.

‘Alright. I can do this. With my past-life memories, I’ll make it work.’

As soon as I made up my mind, I went straight to find Harrison, the family lawyer.

Harrison Howard.

He was about ten years older than me and had always been like an older brother.

We’d grown up together, and he wasn’t just the Sinclair family’s lawyer—he was also my advisor and representative.

“What did you just say, Miss? Weapons?”

Harrison repeated my words as he sat on the sofa, gracefully sipping his tea.

His neatly combed brown hair and warm green eyes made him look calm as always. He pushed his glasses up and looked at me curiously.

“Why would you need weapons all of a sudden?”

“To protect myself.”

Harrison studied me quietly, then smiled.

That smile was bad news.

“What exactly do you mean? Protect yourself from what?”

His tone was soft, like someone coaxing a child. It was clear what he really meant was, ‘What kind of mess are you about to get yourself into now?’

‘Damn it. He’s not going to make this easy.’

I needed weapons—and lots of them. And to get that done, I needed his help.

If I tried to buy them myself, it would definitely cause a stir.

But Harrison was competent. He’d handle it cleanly without drawing attention.

I already knew that vague excuses wouldn’t work with him.

So I looked straight into his eyes and poured all my sincerity into one line:

“I want to kill someone.”

Harrison’s hand froze mid-sip.

But I was dead serious.

Of course I wanted to kill them. Those infected monsters were a direct threat to my life—of course I wanted to shoot them dead.

Harrison slowly set his teacup down and looked up.

The light reflected off his glasses, making them look opaque.

“Who’s the bastard?”

He pushed up his glasses and asked me in a low voice.

I had to be careful.

Harrison was ridiculously overprotective. He’d definitely dig into whoever I mentioned.

Feigning distress, I pulled out a handkerchief and dabbed at my dry eyes.

“I… I don’t want to talk about it.”

Whew. Even I thought that was a perfect response.

Harrison wouldn’t push me any further now.

He’d probably assign someone to follow me, but that didn’t matter.

All I needed to do was finish preparing for the apocalypse.

‘There’s no time to waste anyway!’

Harrison didn’t say anything for a while.

He just sat there, lost in thought.

I could tell he was already going through a list of suspects in his head.

Finally, he spoke.

“…Fine. What kind of weapons do you want? I’ll also hire an instructor to teach you how to use them.”

“Swords, crossbows, axes—everything, really! But Harrison, I don’t need an instructor—”

“Miss. I won’t compromise on this.”

He was firm.

No room for negotiation.

With only 21 days until the world ended, I probably wouldn’t even have time to meet the instructor.

But having a professional’s help wouldn’t hurt.

I gave him a half-hearted nod.

“Fine. Make sure to get plenty of weapons—even spares. I want to do this properly. I’m planning to build an armory too. You know how I am.”

Up until yesterday, I’d been nothing more than a spoiled heiress who wasted money until I saw things through to the end.

Maybe that’s why Harrison didn’t seem suspicious at all.

He just nodded with an expression that practically said, ‘She’s up to something ridiculous again.’

It was unfair, but considering Cherry Sinclair’s history, I couldn’t exactly blame him.

“Where do you plan to build the armory?”

“In Brunel.”

“Brunel?”

Harrison’s face twisted slightly.

‘What’s with that look?’

I stayed calm and replied.

“It’s not far from the capital. Look it up.”

Harrison stood up, pulled a map out of his desk, and spread it out on the table.

Brunel was a small village southeast of the capital.

“…Miss, why that village?”

His confused gaze shifted back to me.

And it made sense.

Brunel was a tiny rural village that didn’t even have a train station.

I had a clear reason for choosing Brunel.

The novel Love in a Ruined World mentioned that village specifically.

She said the mansion was special—optimized for survival, even.@@novelbin@@

And when we finally saw it, the mansion was exactly as she described.

—Excerpt from the novel Love in a Ruined World]**

That’s how I remembered it, more or less.

Anyway, the supporting character Vanilla survived alone in that mansion for six whole months.

That was why I chose this village.

In the novel, the heroine Aurora and her group arrived at this mansion and met Vanilla about six months after the apocalypse began.

Vanilla’s secluded mansion was a fortress on top of a hill.

It had a spacious garden, perfect for planting crops, and a mountain behind it that made foraging easy.

At the time, though, Aurora’s group didn’t have anyone skilled at survival.

They couldn’t handle the food shortage caused by their growing numbers and left soon after.

Later, they gradually became more self-sufficient after meeting José, the weapons expert and secondary male lead.

But before that, they were completely unprepared.

‘If I can just create an environment where I can produce my own food, I’ll be fine.’

In my past life, my parents had been farmers. Landowners, actually.

I was supposed to inherit everything.

Of course, I’d never farmed myself, but I had helped out sometimes and picked up a thing or two.

It couldn’t be that hard, right?

In the novel, it took two years for the protagonists to meet the male lead who could develop a cure.

So all I had to do was survive for two years.

‘Would Harrison believe me if I told him all this?’

I figured it was worth a shot.

“Harrison, the world’s about to end. There’s going to be an outbreak of a virus that turns people into monsters. That’s why I’m going to Brunel—to prepare for the apocalypse.”

I’d rather not describe the look on Harrison’s face when he heard that.

“…Do you need more medication? If you don’t want to go back to Rutherford Hospital, I can find another one. Honestly, I think it might be good for you to stay there for a few days—”

“No! No, no! I was joking! Just a joke! I had a dream. It was really vivid, that’s all.”

I waved my hands frantically, trying to convince him that I was perfectly fine.

I’d taken medication for depression after my parents died, and now it was coming back to bite me.

‘I can’t be locked up in a hospital when the world ends!’

“If you’re sure you’re fine, then alright.”

Harrison sighed in relief.

Honestly, he was the only person who truly cared about me.

I needed to make sure he came with me to the bunker.

“Hey, Harrison. Can you come to Brunel with me? I don’t really know anything about building armories, and I’m not good at picking stuff out.”

Harrison gave me a look that screamed, ‘If you don’t know anything about weapons, why are you even building an armory?’

Since I couldn’t think of an excuse, I just stared at him shamelessly.

“I’ll assign someone to go with you.”

“No. I want you to come with me.”

I had to get him out of the capital.

Harrison frowned, clearly baffled by my insistence.

His face practically said, ‘What scheme are you trying to pull this time?’
