Chapter 362 Two down, one to go
"The Black Flame," the deity breathed, its tone reverent. "Ah, my divine flame."
Jaegar approached cautiously, feeling the heat radiating from the black flames even from a distance. "What do I do?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The deity's response was immediate. "Absorb it, as you did with the earth flame. But be warned—this will be far more intense."
The flames flickered and danced with an unnatural intensity, their edges rippling with a ghostly shimmer. These weren't ordinary flames; they exuded an ominous, bone-chilling energy that sent a shiver down Jaegar's spine.
"Wait, can I observe them like it did with the earth flame?" Jaegar asked, before going in.
"What? You want this flame too?" Deity's said in a surprised tone.
"Well, if it's as powerful as you claim to be, then yes," Jaegar said as a matter of fact.
"Boy, let me tell you, this isn't your typical type of flame. Compared to an earth flame, this is far more dangerous and more potent than any flame. Even the superior blue fares in front of the black flame."
"You have already absorbed the first flame, and if you don't absorb this flame, how can I get it myself? You need to absorb the flame, and I will help you."
"This flame has the power to strengthen your very bones, to make you more resilient, more powerful than any mortal could ever imagine. You've been through the first tier already—basic body strengthening. This flame will take you to the second tier: Intermediate Body strengthening. It will reshape your bones, making them stronger than steel. But be warned—this process will be excruciating."
Jaegar felt his breath catch in his throat. The last time he had absorbed a flame, the Earth Flame, it had been a painful experience, but it had granted him immense physical strength. Now, he was being told that this flame would go even deeper, affecting his very bones. He steeled himself, his resolve firm. Though it was painful, the result had been shocking; his physical power had increased bounds.
Listening to his description of the black flames, he wanted to absorb immediately.
"What do I have to do?" Jaegar asked, his voice steady.
"Touch the flame," the deity instructed. "Let it enter your body. It will find your bones and begin the transformation. But the pain... the pain will be unlike anything you've felt before."
"But first summon the earth flame, surround yourself with the earth flame, then touch the black flame," the deity instructed.
Jaegar raised his hand; the oragne flame lit up his hand, burning fiercely.
Jaegar approached the black flames, his hand outstretched. The heat from the flames was intense, yet it didn't burn his skin. It was as if the flames were alive, sensing his presence, waiting for him to make the first move. He hesitated only for a second before plunging his hand into the heart of the black fire.
The moment his fingers touched the flames, they surged forward, wrapping around his arm like serpents. The earth flame shrieked around his hand.
The flames weren't hot—at least, not in the traditional sense—but they carried a deep, penetrating heat that Jaegar could feel spreading through his body. The fire raced up his arm, across his chest, and down into his legs, sinking into his very bones.
Suddenly, the pain hit.
It started as a dull ache in his bones, but it quickly intensified into a searing, agonizing sensation.
His bones felt as if they were being crushed, shattered, and then rebuilt.
Jaegar collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain, his body convulsing as the black flames continued their work. His bones cracked audibly, breaking apart only to reform moments later, stronger and more durable than before.
He was sweating profusely, his clothes drenched, and the smoke of his sweat being evaporated flew out of his body.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
The pain was unbearable, like molten lava being poured into his skeleton, but Jaegar gritted his teeth, refusing to scream.
Jaegar's body was covered in sweat, his muscles twitching uncontrollably as the flames continued their brutal work. His bones cracked and shattered repeatedly, the sound echoing through the chamber like breaking glass. But each time they broke, they reformed, stronger than before. He could feel the power surging through him, even through the blinding pain.
Hours passed. The agony seemed never-ending, but slowly, the process began to wind down.
The black flames retreated, leaving Jaegar gasping for breath, his body trembling. As the flames left his body, a black, viscous liquid oozed from his pores, pooling on the ground around him. The liquid hissed and bubbled as it touched the stone floor, releasing a foul, acidic smell.
The Flame Deity spoke again, its tone more subdued now. "That liquid is the waste—the impurities that were purged from your bones. It's highly corrosive, so don't touch it. But it means the process is complete. Your bones are now infused with the Black Flame, strengthened beyond anything you could have achieved on your own."
Jaegar lay there for a moment, exhausted, his body still aching from the ordeal. But as he slowly pulled himself to his feet, he realized that something had changed. His body felt... different.
Lighter, yet more solid. His bones no longer felt fragile; they felt like iron, unyielding and powerful. He could feel they became dense, tingling with power, like never before.
He looked down at his hands, clenching them into fists. He could feel the strength in his bones, the solidity of his frame. He had survived the Black Flame, and he had emerged stronger for it.
"Don't be so smug about it. If I hadn't helped you, you wouldn't have done it, The deity spoke in his mind, arrogantly.
Jaegar sighed and replied, "Well, thank you for your help. I will be sure to help you."
"Yeah, yeah, remember it well. I will need it in the future."
The Flame Deity's voice came out again: "You're not done yet, boy. There is still one more Divine Flame to find."
"It seems luck has been on my side; I am sure we will find it within no time," Jaegar assured him.
