Rise of the Blood Sovereign

Chapter 86 The Silent Sword

86  The Silent Sword

"The scrolls are legitimate, so the story can be considered as true." A man said to the woman that had previously interviewed Lyle before giving her the pieces of the scrolls back.

Scrolls always have some remnants of the magic power that was imbued in them after being used, which makes it possible for people to identify what magic spell was imbued in one.

Lyle of course knew this, and most assassins did, which is why they will make sure to take back some pieces after using the scroll in order to give the report.

Lyle was slightly different, however. He not only picked up the pieces of scrolls he personally used, but pieces of scrolls others had used as well. The clone scroll, for one, was a scroll that a knight had used about 3 months ago back when he was running away from Lyle.

Unaware that Lyle was right above him in a forest that was near his mansion, the knight used the scroll order to create a copy that would run in a different direction and hopefully confuse Lyle.

Upon using the scroll, the knight jumped on top of a tree and made his way in a different direction, only for Lyle to scoop up the pieces of the scroll before running after the man and ending his life.

He would also not always report that he had used a scroll in order to be able to report that in the future.

The organization knew that the assassins were not always truly truthful during a report, but if the mission was completed without any trouble, they wouldn't really care about the reports since it was a given that many of the assassins had secrets they didn't wish to divulge.

Lying during a report was something that constantly happened and nobody would really bat an eye, except for cases when the lies were too obvious.

"Do we monitor the Shade, to go against the magister and survive is not a small feat, and it should have been impossible with his current level of strength." The woman asked as the man chuckled before sitting down.

"No, there is no need for that, it isn't like he killed the man, we should actually be thanking him, it's thanks to him that we were able to get the information that the magister Ilya is still alive and that he has been in the empire for a long time now."

"Without him being able to successfully assassinate the young duke, we might have never learned the truth about the archmage and the empire would still be unaware of the threat he posed."

"Plus, prince Sieg was in the company that assaulted the castle, there is a high chance that a Titled Knight was sent to protect him from the shadows, perhaps even the prince is unaware of that."

"But wouldn't have someone felt the aura of two combatants of such a level clashing?"

"Perhaps, but there is always the possibility that he stalked Ilya till he was far away before attacking him, the royal family won't give an answer to that even if we were to ask, so we might never find out."

"Put a bonus to the completion of the mission, about 80%, the difficulty of the mission should also be adjusted as a level higher, it should all go to the Shade's record, he has done a splendid job this time."

"Yes, as for the vacation he requested?"

"He is free to take as long as he needs, perhaps he will be able to surprise us after coming back." The man said as the woman bowed down before disappearing from the spot.

She was not a normal agent, but one that answered to one of the four Shadows that are at the very top of the organization.

Lyle was well aware of that since he was one that answered to the very same man as well, his backer, the Shadow Nicholas 'The Silent Sword'.

Working for the empire and getting rid of their enemies might fool someone into believing that the organization was a force of good, but it was without a doubt nothing of the sort.

It couldn't be called outright evil or bad, but grey.

It stayed in the very middle and would not hesitate to kill innocents if it was beneficial to them. Many assassins were not like Lyle and wouldn't care about the number of innocent victims that would die from their mission.

He would always try to minimize casualties, but there were many assassins that would kill tens of people just to get to their target easily.

Even killing one's entire family and clan in order to get them riled up and easier to assassinate was nothing special to assassins, a fact that always made Lyle bothered.

Upon leaving the headquarters, Lyle made his way over to the red light district.

It was already late and he had previously told Adam not to leave the house before he was back, which allowed him to have some freedom.

Even though he had taken a liking to Adam who turned out to be more useful than he previously believed he would be, he felt as if he had been babysitting the guy ever since he turned him into a servant.

He needed to blow off some steam, and he knew exactly how to do so.

About 2 hours later, inside a room at a shady hotel.

"You were gone for longer than usual this time." A woman said as she put her head on Lyle's chest. The two were lying on a large bed and the whole bedroom was currently a mess.

"I know," Lyle said calmly as he looked outside a window that had been placed next to the bed.

The moon was high up in the air and provided some light for the streets of the city, although there was no real need for the lights since the whole city was always lit up by many lanterns that could be found on the streets.

"Just like always, you're never fun before and after we do it." The red-haired woman said with a sad face as she looked at Lyle before standing up.

Her long red hair fell down all the way to her butt while her large chest heaved up and down since she was breathing a bit faster than usual.

"I do have to admit that I always look forward to our meeting, however." The woman smiled as she went to a nightstand and poured a glass of wine for her and Lyle.

"So, come on, I can see that something is on your mind, you can always talk to me, you know?" The woman said as she placed her chest in front of Lyle's head.

"I told you I can't talk about it, so drop it, alright?" Lyle said as the woman pouted a bit before sighing.

"Alright, so how long will you be staying this time."

"Not sure, probably longer than usual," Lyle said as he took the glass of wine before putting it on the nightstand next to him.

The woman observed his every movement and smiled widely.

"Oh really, that is some good news." She took a sip of the wine before leaning against the frame of the bed.

"What's wrong, you're not in the mood for drinking?" The woman asked Lyle who smiled and stared at her.

"Well, I don't have the habit of drinking poisoned wine."
