Vol. 11 - Chapter 544 - Status Quo of Arena. The drastic changes.
He was a gutsy guy—the guy with the «Battle Monk» job, I mean—if I have to be honest.
The fire of passion inside him was so vibrant.
—I will hold the line, so make a run!
This was the classic line when the situation reaches its climax. How could I not be fired up when someone is going to show the brilliance of his lifetime! I got so much fired in our confrontation that I almost forgot my anger toward them for snatching our points, and ended up quickly taking him down.
I had even forgotten economising on my MP, casting fourth order skill in rapid succession. It was a win but the price was paid by plummeting MP bar. I guess, I really did act a bit immature in the heat of the moment.
I emptied down «MP Hi-Potion», while having MIsato restore my HP.
"Boy, it was a blast. I guess I will not hold you for the fumble, <Best of the Best, the Great Star>."
" " “Y_You will?!" " "
The three remaining members of <Best of the Best, the Great Star> raised their voices in unison from behind me, huddling together.
After all, they fumbled the game hard when they themselves said they would bring souvenirs with them. But like a scaredy cat, they changed their plan when they saw a crowd of students marching toward Class-2's base. Like duh, I explained it earlier that pursuers are closing in.
Now, instead it was Class-24 who snatched our opportunity.
Though given the extenuating circumstances, I knew it was easier than done. The pursuers were a huge group of 30 students, a combined force of two classes, so it would have been dangerous for them to jump in the fray with just five members, regardless of Ester's advance job and all.
But otherwise, there was me and Misato on their back, so they could have at least made one or two moves for sure, even if they would have to retreat. But the lack of inaction was pathetic frankly. Even more so, the wait-and-see suggestion was from <Best of the Best, the Great Star>.
And here I had granted them the chance to make their names, but alas.
Well, Ester and Pamela didn't voice their opinion while being with them, so I let it pass this time.
Besides, they did perform quite exceptionally to regain their reputation as well. Even when facing as many as 15 opponents at once, they didn't show any cowedice and confronted them head on, which was quite commendable of them. Their grim determination, to push further regardless if it gets them eliminated, had played a huge psychological effect on enemies.
Hearing my forgiveness, the three of the quartet were like fish who finally found their oasis in the desert, re-emerging with renewed motivation.
While I was checking out on them, I heard the sound of friction and noticed Ester approaching me, her «Azure Cogwheel» making a *vrrrr* sound.
"You were stellar, Zephyr-dono. As for our side, the opponent managed to escape from our grasp. I apologise."
"We couldn't capture him-desu."
"Cheer up, at least we got the other 14 members. Heck, we should be rejoicing that it was only one, if anything."
"Well, is that how it goes?"
"Indeed, and the last person to stay behind was considerably—no, was quite strong too. It's actually worth more. I doubt Class-24 would have any more contender of his level. So be proud of your achievement."
"Ohh, thank you-desu!"
"True enough, I guess. The last person was exceptionally brave, and strong."
Pamela and Ester finally easen up at my response.
On the other hand, Ester showed a contemplative expression when I talk about the guy with «Battle Monk» job. I guess that scene had struck some chord with her, too.
I wonder if I will ever get the chance to pull that 'Leave it to me and run away' act.
"Anyway, time to take a quick rest, everyone. We will leave immediately after the preparations, so make it quick. Also, who among you knows our current losses and all?"
We had been in consecutive battles one after another, so it should have everyone's MP rock bottom. I thought it was a fine time to take a respite. I had already emptied many vials of «MP Hi-Potion» in fact.
Aside from that, I wasn’t with the other members, locked against that hammer girl Addie, so I requested a report over our current loss and performance.
Hearing me, Ester swiftly briefed me about the situation.
"I do. So, we have only lost Saturn from our offense team so far. He was deported after taking in a single attack of Class-2's leader."
"Pfft!!"
The report unwittingly elicit a burst of laughter.
Ugh, I must not. As much as the earlier scene was funny, it would be unbefitting to laugh out as a leader. I mean, I never thought Saturn would kick the bucket after giving that pompous speech. Even now, I felt myself losing control over my laughter—
"Zephyr-dono?"
"Cough, *Ahem!* Phew... that was so close. —I-I'm alright."
I somehow made my earlier burst of laughter appear as a fit of cough and replied to Ester’s puzzled query. I feel like Saturn's last words were 'I'm not going to lose against someone like them' or something… but the outcome was just… speechless.
Oh well, at least he can revive back once we clear this block round, so he should be alright... most likely, I guess. Yeah, let's cheer on him later.
I felt like I saw a grudgeful Saturn, but that must be my imagination.
"There had been few others who were nearly pushed out of the match, though they survived nonetheless. This poses no problem as long as they're alive, healing comes to clinch for this moment."
Ester's gaze momentary glanced in the direction of <Best of the Best, the Great Star> when she mentioned about the close call, so it was easy who it was. But just as she said, if they're not eliminated, then we're good to go.
"Thanks. Speaking of, let's check out the recap. I wonder what's the situation now like?"
I checked the time and realised it had already been 30 minutes since we left our base. I bet a lot of classes should have made their move in the meantime. Let's see—
—————Scoreboard—————
Remaining Time - 3 hours 50 minutes.

.........I think my eyes needed more rest than I expected. I didn't even know what the hell I was looking at. Like, how did we suddenly skip to climax??
Just look at all the member count of high-ranking class, they've been reduced to mere dregs.
Ester, who had been staring at the Smartphone together, glanced at me. I was similarly looking at her. A silence drifted between us, and it remained so until someone stealthily jumped into our vision.
"Zephyr."
"Who—oooaah?! Darn, so it's you, Karua! No, I mean great timing!"
Ah, yes. I forgot, but we had planned to meet at the periodic interval of 30 minutes. Now that it was time, she dropped by us.
"Hn. There’s a lot to report."
"Nice. I, too, want to know what the hell happened."
Karua was our—Class-1's eye. So I was glad she had already gathered the information. The upheaval in the match was just too great that I couldn't wait to hear the details.
Soon, Karua gave us a rundown of the current situation.
"And that sums it up."
"......I see."
...Let's see. So to summarise my feeling—Whoah, what the hell. Why is everyone like they're on supply of a whole year's worth of monster energy!! Like wow, even our base was in danger! Fortunately, our defense group routed them before they could do any damage.
First of all, I immediately asked Karua to inform us right away whenever there's an attack on our base from here onward. The raid could have gone south as well after all.
Though aside from that, we now had a couple of classes with their defense being spread too thin. It was literally beckoning us to visit them. Well, it's the duty of a gentleman to accept the invitation, eh.
I already had several plans taking shape in my mind as I went through Karua's report.
There was much to do, but so let's start with the nearby thing.
"Karua. Inform Celestine to deal with Class-58 and Class-15's base."
I had already decided on our next move.
Class-45 was heading toward Class-24 with all their military might, along with the members of Class-99 and Class-119. Consequently, their bases had no major force to stop us if we visited them now.
It was just the time to graduate from 2nd rank. In that case, it's time for us to turn the tables on others with a bang!
