Wu Daming has been following Mo Qishen for such a long time, but he had never seen Mo Qishen so humble before.
Except when he encountered Ni Yang.
Wu Daming picked up his cup and took a sip of tea. His heart was filled with emotions.
Ni Cuihua brought a dish of green apples and sunflower seeds to him. “Xiaowu, here are some apples and seeds for you. Please help yourself.”
“Thank you, Auntie.” Wu Daming immediately put down his tea and expressed his gratitude.
Ni Cuihua continued, “Xiaomo, let Xiaowu have some food. He’s too shy to eat.”
“Sure, Auntie.” Mo Qishen nodded and handed a green apple to Wu Daming.
The moment Ni Yang returned home, she went to her room to check. After staying five days in the hospital, she found her room very tidy and completely dust-free, thanks to Ni Cuihua’s cleaning.
A white June Snow tree peeked in from the window, releasing a light fragrance. Underneath the window lay a desk with a pile of thick books and an old-style military green lamp on the left. Next to it was a pen holder filled with all sorts of blue and black pens and fountain pens.
Next to it was a very large wardrobe with a full-length mirror mounted on the door.
The arrangement was simple but exuding a heartwarming appeal.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
“Home is always the most comfortable place,” Ni Yang sighed, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath of the surrounding air.
“Yangyang.” Mo Qishen walked in from the outside, “Do you have any band-aids here?”
Band-aids were introduced to China in the 1940s, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that they really hit the market. As Ni Yang was a doctor, she kept band-aids at home.
“Band-aids?” Ni Yang frowned slightly, “Did someone get hurt?”
“Wu Daming accidentally cut his finger while peeling an apple,” Mo Qishen replied.
“Is everything okay? How deep is the cut?” Ni Yang asked as she opened a first-aid kit.
“It’s fine. A band-aid is all he needs.”
“Brother Mo, here you go.” Ni Yang handed a band-aid to Mo Qishen.
Walking into the living room, they found Wu Daming was pacing around with his injured finger in hand, “Brother Six, do you have a band-aid?”
“Hmm.” Mo Qishen nodded and handed him the band-aid.
“How is it? Is the cut deep? Should we apply some medicine and wrap it up?” Ni Yang walked forward to check.
“No need, Sister-in-law. It’s just a scratch.” Wu Daming replied while applying the band-aid.
After Ni Yang felt reassured, she walked to the table, picked up a cup and took a sip of tea. Frowning slightly, she said to Mo Qishen, “Brother Mo, why are you drinking such strong tea? Have you not been sleeping well recently?”
Considering that Mo Qishen had been sleeping on the hospital couch for the past few nights, it would have been natural for him not to sleep well.
Mo Qishen smiled and said, “I’m just used to drinking strong tea.”
“How come I’ve never noticed before that you like your tea so strong? It’s still early; why don’t you go sleep for a while in my room? I’ll wake you up when it’s time for lunch.” Ni Yang ushered Mo Qishen towards her bedroom.
“I’m not sleepy.”
“You are!” Ni Yang did not give him a chance to refuse and directly pushed Mo Qishen to sit on the bed in her room. “Go to sleep now. It’s only half past eight. We eat lunch at twelve. You can sleep at least for another three and a half hours.”
“I’m really not sleepy.” Mo Qishen laughed helplessly.
“Just go to sleep.” Ni Yang pressed down his shoulder. She was about to take off his shoes, but Mo Qishen immediately sat up and said, “Yangyang, I said I’d go to sleep. I can take off my shoes myself!”
Mo Qishen said and started taking off his shoes.
Ni Yang pulled up the light cover and placed it on him. “I’m leaving now. I’ll call you for lunch.”
“Okay.” Mo Qishen nodded.
Ni Yang’s bed was different from the imported Simmons-style beds. Her bed was a carved-frame bed with a top and four posts. The bed seemed like a small house. The frame was made of mahogany and was carved with simple patterns, which made it look exceptionally secure.
Underneath the bed sheet was a layer of dry straw. Lying on it felt soft, and a faint sweet scent of straw lingered around, just like the scent on Ni Yang, very pleasant to his nose.
The thought that this was Ni Yang’s bed and the blanket had been used by her excited Mo Qishen. He pulled the blanket over his face and deeply inhaled its scent. He fell asleep without realizing it.
He had a great sleep until Ni Yang woke him up for lunch.
Lunch was splendid, including Braised Pork, Mapo Tofu, Boiled Fish, Cold Noodles, and Tomato and Egg Soup.
Ni Yang’s culinary skills were impressive. Even an ordinary dish like the Braised Pork had an extraordinary taste when she cooked it.
