Chapter 103 Has Chef Lucian Turned Over A New Leaf?
"You," Lucian pointed at the young man. His mana-enhanced voice traveled to the young man's ears, startling him from his daze.
In an instant, the young man's face paled. He nervously gulped as he looked down at the fork in his hand and the piece of poached egg that he had stolen.
'Shit! Shit! Shit!'
'What have I done!?'Nôv(el)B\\jnn
The man screamed and berated his unconscious behavior.
*Drip* *Drip* *Drip*
The fragrant and delicious egg yolk, which had not been fully cooked, slid from his fork, and down onto the table. Each time, an audible sound akin to water falling and hitting cement was heard in the silent restaurant.
No one even dared to breathe as they waited for the young man's punishment. Even now, they did not believe Chef Lucian would let the young man go.
"I-I'm sorry Chef Lucian." He stammered with a fearful expression. If it had been before he would not have acted meek and scared. However, after learning Lucian was a terrifying Magical Beast, his fear of him grew to an unprecedented level.
"In my restaurant, I expect my customers to follow my rules," Lucian said indifferently as he walked over to the young man.
The three nobodies sitting at the same table as him immediately stood up and distanced themselves. It was as though the young man had become a plague.
Once Lucian was standing over the young man, he leaned in and whispered in his ears, "I'm quite surprised that the first person to break my rule would be a nobody like you."
The young man, named Yax, had never felt so much humiliation in his life before. As a rogue Mage, it was true he was essentially a nobody. However, being told that to his face left a bitter taste in his mouth. He clenched his left hand under the table.
Without caring about his feelings, Lucian continued, "I was quite confident it would be Hervy that broke one of my rules first."
The others, who were familiar with Hervy, could not help but nod in agreement. Hervy was known for his reckless and impulsive behavior.
As for Hervy, he ignored their gazes and continued listening to Chef Lucian, wanting to see how he would deal with the young man. If he was truly punished, then he would need to change his behavior. However, if he was forgiven for breaking his rule, then he would not care for them.
"Normally, I would have blacklisted you from my restaurant. However, I appreciate your courage.." Lucian suddenly smiled and stood up. As he was returning to the kitchen, he indifferently said, "Go on and try my dish. Tell me how it tastes."
Yax's eyes immediately lit up and his dry mouth salivated uncontrollably.
"R-Really!?"
Lucian turned his head around and as he pointed at the fuming monk, who had realized his food had been stolen, he said, "If you don't want to, then give it back to the bald monk."
Everyone in the restaurant frowned with weird expressions on their faces, except for the four nobodies.
What just happened did not seem like Chef Lucian's style. He was a stickler for the rules.
'Could it be Chef Lucian turned over a new leaf?'
Even Li Yong was bewildered by Lucian's actions. However, that was only for a moment, as he quickly returned to eating the dish.
Lily, Fenwick, and James; however, sighed as they gazed at the young man in pity.
'What an idiot.' James squinted his beady eyes in amusement. As someone who had tasted Chef Lucian's dish and another Alchemy Chef's food, he knew why they had a rule that did not allow weak Mages to eat their food. The Mana contained in their dishes was too potent.
'He can only blame himself.' James then closed his eyes and watched as the Mana from the Sous Vide Filet Mignon flowed through his Mana Veins. Each circulation strengthened his Mana Veins, making them more robust. From their finger-sized width, they had already grown to the size of an adult man's arm.
Meanwhile, Yax glanced at Anselm and then back to the poached egg on his fork. Despite most of the egg yolk had fallen onto the table, it still radiated an enticing allure.
Sighing lightly, Anselm brought his palms together and spoke, "Amitabha! Buddha is Merciful! If Chef Lucian has given you permission to eat, then this poor little monk won't say anything. Brother Yax, go on and eat the Siren's Melody Poached Egg. Don't make Chef Lucian wait any longer. He is a busy man."
After he spoke, a flicker of disdain and ruthlessness flashed through Anselm's eyes.
'This monk is sinister.' Lucian indifferently thought to himself. From the others' lack of reaction, it was obvious they had not spotted the disdain and ruthlessness that had flashed past his eyes.
However, Yax was oblivious to Anselm's true intentions. He brought the fork to his mouth. The moment the poached egg touched his tongue, an explosion of delicious flavors assaulted his senses. It was sweet, spicy, and savory all at once.
As he savored the dish, a single tear fell down his face. He had never tasted something so delicious in his life before.
'Hmm, what's this? Mana?' Yax suddenly furrowed his brows when he sensed a powerful burst of Mana flow down his tongue and into his Mana Veins. It was like a tidal wave of Mana had been unleashed in his body. He willed his Mana to block, yet quickly realized the Mana belonged to a Rank he could not handle. Instantly, the dam he had created with his Mana burst and his Mana Veins were flooded.
"NOOOOOO! HELP ME! PLEASE!" Yax loudly begged when he saw his Mana Veins were being stretched to their limit. If it continued, his Mana Veins would burst.
He sorrowfully looked to the others for help.
However, the expression on his face changed to despair when he saw them standing still and watching his body.
