Chapter 258: Fate
Chapter 258: Fate
“Why are… all of you so calm?” A girl curled up on the chair asked. She had tears on her face. “What transmigration? Is this a tv program?” The girl wore a cute bear pyjamas. It was loose and exposed half of her calves. This reminded Fatty of Zhang Yinyin.
“Girl,” A large man with a bushy beard sighed. Then, he continued in awkward Mandarin, “We’ve explained everything about the nightmares. If we don’t complete the mission, we can’t leave.”
Hearing that, the girl looked like she was about to cry again. However, no one was there to console her. After some interactions, Fatty realised that other than the Doctor, there were two people who said that they were newbies. The girl in the pyjama was one. The other was a man in a white shirt and bleached jeans. He wore some canvas shoes. He looked like a university student. Even though he acted calm, the fear in his eyes betrayed him. He was nervous, and his lips were pale.
After waiting for a while and realising no one else was coming, they started the self-introductions.
“It’s fate we met… despite the circumstances.” It was a gentleman around 30 who spoke first. He was handsome and stood upright. He had a pair of rimless glasses on his nose. His tone carried sadness but also honesty.
“Now, I’ll have to trouble everyone to introduce themselves, focusing on how we should refer to you, your occupation and what you’re good at,” the man smiled, “Hopefully, this time we can all survive.”
The room became quiet. The weeping girl looked up and stared at him with red eyes. Having all of them survive… was a dream in the nightmare realm.
“Let me start,” The man tried to focus, “My name is An Xuan. I am a forensic doctor. I am familiar with medical studies, trace studies, evidence collection, autopsies, and medical examinations.” As if worried that people might misunderstand him, he added.
“So a police officer…” A dirty-looking young man with blonde hair twitched his nose. He looked at the kind man unnaturally. When the man looked back at him, the youth looked away.
“Yes.” An Xuan smiled, “What about you?”After some hesitation, the youth said, “My name is Shi Liaozhi. I… am a mover.” He added, “I’m not good at anything.”
“A mover? The kind that helped others without telling them?” A weak voice said. Shi Liaozhi’s face dropped. Everyone turned to the source. It was the man who was crying earlier. When he noticed everyone’s eyes on him, Jiang Cheng looked flustered. He wrapped himself tighter as if worried that they might do something to him.
“What is your name?” An Xuan ignored the earlier comment and turned to Jiang Cheng.
“It’s Hao Shuai.” Jiang Cheng looked scared. Then, remembering something, a shade of shyness appeared on his face. However, Fatty knew it was not shyness but pride.
A few seconds later…
“I’m a model.” Jiang Cheng lifted his head. “I work the night shift. I am from the high-end group. I’m sure you understand that. There is only one of me among 20-plus people. I am very rare. You need to book a date to see me, and it can only happen inside a private booth.” He paused before adding, “Our goal is to provide the guests with the best satisfaction.”
Everyone was so shocked that the room was silent for a long while.
Fatty noticed someone silently moving towards him. A suppressed voice came from behind him, “Is he always like this?” It was Xia Meng. It was clear that her patience with regards to the Doctor was wearing thin.
However, Fatty didn’t feel anything because everything that the Doctor said was true. If anything, the truth was greater than he described.
“No,” Fatty answered.
Xia Meng looked better.
“Sometimes, we’d get private jets to come fetch the Doctor,” Fatty said calmly.
Perhaps it was Jiang Cheng. The rest of the self-introductions were simpler. Some only revealed their names and nothing else.
Other than the Doctor, An Xuan and Shi Liaozhi, there were seven other people. Including Fatty and Chen Xiaomeng, there were four males and three females.
The elder who spoke earlier was Qin Jian. He was a retired government agent.
The bearded man was You Qi. He was in transportation. His muscles were large and powerful. He looked like a nice person.
The pyjama girl was Tang Shirou. Her name was as soft as her personality. Apparently, she was a famous cosplayer and blogger.
The young man in the white shirt was Chen Qiang. He was a student at a science university. When he introduced himself, he was reticent because he was wary of the people around him.
There was a well-dressed woman who looked like she just came from a ball. Her name was Zuo Qing. She was a secretary. Zuo Qing’s every move revealed the charm of a mature lady.
Xia Meng still called herself Chen Xiaomeng. However, her occupation changed. She said she was an art school student.
Everyone turned to Fatty. He was the last person.
“Hello.” Fatty, who was about to gain a name for the first time, said with a red face, “My name is Jiang Fugui. I am a truck driver. I am not an orphan.”
