Chapter 635: Side Story 048 Wan Quan’s Conspiracy (Updated Late at Night)
Every day, early in the morning.
Lei Qian would wake up.
However, every time she woke up, Mu Cidian was already in the kitchen preparing breakfast.
She rushed to help him.
Both of them were busy in the kitchen.
Lei Qian said, “I think aunty’s health seems to be deteriorating.”
Mu Cidian nodded.
“Last night, she wanted to get up to go to the bathroom, but she barely had the strength in her legs, I’m worried that if this continues…” Lei Qian started but couldn’t finish.
“I’ll go to the hospital later and ask the doctor about some possible ways to make her feel better.”
“Mmm.” Lei Qian nodded.
After setting breakfast on the table, Mu Cidian left.
Lei Qian went to wake up Wan Quan for breakfast.
After a while, Wan Quan woke up, she seemed extremely weak, “What’s the time?”
“It’s already 9 in the morning.”
“I’ve been feeling weaker recently.”
“It might be a side effect of the medication,” Lei Qian comforted.
Wan Quan couldn’t stop her medication during this period.
Wan Quan didn’t question any further.
She got up from the bed with Lei Qian’s help.
Mu Cidian placed breakfast in front of Wan Quan.
Wan Quan had no appetite.
“Mom, eat something. Otherwise, the medication you take every day will also harm your stomach,” Mu Cidian persuaded her.
Wan Quan picked up her cutlery and began to eat slowly.
It was slow, but at least she was eating.
Mu Cidian said, “Later, I will go to the hospital and get some more medicine for you.”
“Mmm.” Wan Quan responded.
After breakfast, Mu Cidian left.
Wan Quan sat on the sofa, her whole body feeling weak.
Lei Qian massaged her on the side, making her feel a bit better.
Wan Quan said, “Qian Qian, get my phone for me.”
“Okay.” Lei Qian quickly went to get Wan Quan’s phone.
Wan Quan dialed a number from her contact list, “Xiaocheng, it’s me, Sister Wan.”
“Oh, Sister Wan, you haven’t been to our place for a long time, I’ve got lots of young lads here, don’t you want to come check them out?”
“No need, I’m already in menopause, those lads can’t tempt me anymore,” Wan Quan said with a chuckle.
“Sister Wan, you’re joking. You’re still so young.”
“Enough of your nonsense, can you prepare some drugs for me? Someone will come pick them up in a bit.”
“What drugs?”
“What do you think?” Wan Quan replied.
The other side seemed to understand, “Sister, didn’t you say you’re in menopause?”
“Who said it was for me,” Wan Quan responded harshly, “Get me the potent ones.”
“Yes, yes, I’ll get them ready for you,” the person on the other side quickly agreed, “It’s just, Sister, they’ve been cracking down on this drug lately and it’s hard to find. It’s risky for me too… ”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be well compensated.”
“I knew you would understand. I’ll call you when I find it.”
“Just text me.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up the phone, Wan Quan said to Lei Qian, “Go fetch something for me in a bit.”
“Aunty, what kind of medication are you getting? You can’t be taking unprescribed remedies at your health condition,” Lei Qian desperately pleaded.
“Relax, it’s not for me, and it’s not the medicine you’re thinking of. Just do as I say.”
Lei Qian nodded reluctantly.
“You must not tell Mu Cidian.”
“But…”
“No buts. If you want to be with Mu Cidian, just do as I say.”
“Okay.” Lei Qian could only nod.
It wasn’t ten minutes yet.
Wan Quan received a text message.
Glancing at the message, Wan Quan told Lei Qian, “Now go and fetch the medicine for me. I’ll give you the address and number. Remember, Mu Cidian must not know about this, otherwise you and Mu Cidian will be hopeless.”
“Okay.”
Lei Qian left.
Wan Quan watched Lei Qian’s retreating figure.
This was the only method she could think of for now, to matchmake Mu Cidian and Lei Qian.
While she was still alive.
She must make Mu Cidian let go of all his feelings for Xin Zaozao.
…
Mu Cidian came back from the hospital.
The doctor prescribed some more medicine, but they were all health supplements, which won’t bring about significant improvements to Wan Quan’s condition. The doctor was explicit in saying that Wan Quan’s situation would probably only last another two to three months.
Mu Cidian appeared quite despondent.
He opened the door.
Lei Qian had just returned and handed the drugs to Wan Quan.
Wan Quan didn’t show any unusual signs and asked Mu Cidian who was holding some medications, “What did the doctor say? I’m growing weaker, losing appetite and my bones are aching all over.”
“The doctor said that it’s a side effect of the treatment. He gave me some health supplements. ”
“Mu Cidian, tell me the truth, is my illness serious?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Don’t overthink it.” Mu Cidian went to sit down, “The doctor said that the most important thing for your disease is to have a positive mindset, combined with treatment and medication, you will recover soon.”
“You must be fooling me,” Wan Quan said, disbelief creeping into her voice.
“You have to trust me,” replied Mu Cidian.
Wan Quan gave a small laugh, “Who else can I trust if not you? You’re my son, I have to believe whatever you say now.”
A wave of discomfort washed over Mu Cidian.
His recent harmonious interactions with Wan Quan had deepened his emotional attachment to her, making it even more difficult to let go.
He stood up from his seat on the couch. “I’m going to prepare lunch. What would you like to have?”
“I don’t have much of an appetite. Some porridge will do.”
“Sure.”
Mu Cidian went off to prepare the meal.
Watching Mu Cidian’s retreating figure, emotion welled up within Wan Quan, bringing a hint of redness to her eyes.
Quickly, Lei Qian took her hand, “Auntie.”
Wan Quan managed to stabilize her emotions. “I just feel that these days are precious and I find it hard to let go.”
“Things will get better. Please, don’t overthink,” Lei Qian comforted her.
Wan Quan nodded.
After lunch,
Lei Qian would accompany Wan Quan downstairs for a walk.
Sometimes, Mu Cidian would join them.
At other times, when he had matters to attend to, he would stay home and work.
In actuality, Wan Quan couldn’t walk for long periods of time as she would tire easily.
Lei Qian would then accompany her back home.
Inwardly, Wan Quan knew her condition was deteriorating. Yet, she held it in and kept it to herself.
At night, after dinner, she lay in bed.
As always, Lei Qian was by her side, assisting her with brushing her teeth and changing her clothes.
“Qian Qian,” Wan Quan said, “Could you please get me a glass of milk?”
“Sure,” replied Lei Qian as she hurried out of the room.
Returning with a cup of warm milk, Lei Qian handed it to Wan Quan. “Auntie.”
Wan Quan picked up a pill that Lei Qian had brought for her earlier from the bedside table.
“Auntie,” Lei Qian uttered, watching her actions closely.
Wan Quan dropped the medication into the milk and said to Lei Qian, “Take this glass of milk to Mu Cidian.”
“Auntie…”
“Relax. He’s my son. I would never do anything to harm him. This medicine will be good for him.”
“Oh.” Lei Qian didn’t think much of it.
She made her way to Mu Cidian’s room.
She knocked.
All this while, she had maintained a cordial distance from Mu Cidian.
This was her first time knocking on his door.
Mu Cidian, clad in his pajamas, answered the door, “Lei Qian.”
“Actually, Auntie told me to bring this glass of milk to you. She says drinking milk is good for your health, she wants you to be… you to be very…” Lei Qian stuttered, visibly nervous.
Mu Cidian accepted the milk.
He didn’t think much of it at that moment.
He had grown accustomed to Lei Qian’s jittery nature and disjointed speech.
Besides, given Wan Quan’s current physical condition, her wishes for his health were justified.
Upon finishing the milk, he said to Lei Qian, “You don’t have to trouble yourself in the future. Let my mother know that I’ll drink milk on my own every night.”
“Okay.”
With the empty glass in hand, Lei Qian left.
She returned to Wan Quan’s room.
Wan Quan was not asleep. She asked Lei Qian, “Did he drink it?”
“Yes, he did.”
“That’s all I needed to know,” said Wan Quan, nodding her head.
Lei Qian lifted the covers, ready to go to bed.
“Don’t sleep here tonight.”
“What?”
“Go wait in the living room.”
“Why?”
“Just do as I say.”
“Auntie, what’s going on?” Lei Qian was perplexed.
In an exasperated tone, Wan Quan said, “You’re so naive. The pill I just gave Mu Cidian was an aphrodisiac. He’s going to need a woman.”
Lei Qian was taken aback.
“Sometimes, to win a man’s heart, you have to be a little cunning.”
“But this is…”
“Yes, this is it,” interjected Wan Quan firmly, “You wait here tonight and sleep with Mu Cidian. Tomorrow, I’ll know how to get him to be with you.”
“Won’t this make him hate you?” Lei Qian expressed her worries.
“What can he do? My days are numbered. He can’t hate me for long.”
“Auntie, please don’t say that.”
“I am well aware of my health condition, and there is no need for you to hide it either. I am certain about my son. Once he does something to you, he will take responsibility. The only thing I cannot accept in my lifetime is if Mu Cidian ends up liking Xin Zaozao and being with her. I hope you can help fulfill my last wish.”
Lei Qian was still having a hard time accepting all of this.
“Stop thinking, go wait for him. You mustn’t let him leave, understood?”
Lei Qian shook her head, “Auntie, this is… this is not right.”
“Qian Qian, would you do this for me, as I am on my deathbed? Can you help me this one last time?” Wan Quan pleaded with a sense of urgency.
Lei Qian gazed at her, at a loss for words.
“Help me this one last time,” Wan Quan said, determination burning in her eyes.
Lei Qian clenched her teeth.
She didn’t wish to harm Mu Cidian. What she wanted was simply to fulfill Auntie’s last wish in her lifetime.
