Chapter 689 Welcome Dinner (1)
Ken decided that he needed a quick shower before heading out to the welcome dinner, he wouldn't want his new teammates thinking that he smelled. After all, this was a complex that he'd had ever since Ai started to show interest in him in the first year of High School.
Taking his shirt off, Ken opened the door to the adjoining bathroom and was about to drop his pants. However, he froze in the next moment as he saw a figure wrapped in a towel standing in front of the mirror.
She had a towel wrapped around her hair as well as her body, revealing a hint of cleavage which could be seen through the reflection in the steamy mirror. From an initial glance, her figure looked to be shapely, yet toned.
Ken blinked a few times, his brain short circuiting.
"Oh hey, you must be our new neighbor." She said, turning her attention from the mirror briefly. Her eyes scanned Ken's chest and abs briefly before giving a nod of approval.
"The name's Tara." She added with a smile.
Ken was slow on the uptake, but he still managed to respond with his name.
"Anyway, I'm pretty much done. I'll leave you to it Ken." She replied nonchalantly, leaving the bathroom in the next moment. "See you around~"
It wasn't until she left that Ken realized he had been holding his breath the entire time. He hadn't expected that this would be a shared bathroom with his neighbors, not to mention that they were women.
'Damn it. What kind of school would allow this?' Ken thought, a hint of exhaustion reaching his features.
He quickly closed both doors and made sure they were locked. The last thing he wanted was to be walked in on when showering, especially by a woman.
Lamenting his situation, Ken hurriedly washed himself and left the bathroom to get changed. 'I hope this thing goes quick…' He mused, wanting nothing more to get some rest.
After getting changed, he left the dorms and headed back towards Lerner Hall. Having been whisked throughout the campus most of the day, he was able to remember the way there.
Upon arrival, he already saw plenty of people lining up, dressed in various trendy outfits. The girls were wearing cocktail dresses while some of the guys even wore a suit, making Ken feel under dressed in his smart casual attire.
Eventually he made it to the front of the line and had to provide his name and university ID which he'd just acquired. Thankfully there were no issues and he was let inside.
He was ushered to a function room where there were tables and seats scattered around the place and a buffet full of appealing food. Ken was instantly drawn to the delicious smells wafting around.
Ken made a beeline towards the buffet, grabbing a plate and loading it up with no shame. If he had to suffer through this social event, he wouldn't be doing it on an empty stomach.
Disregarding everyone mingling amongst each other, Ken retreated to one of the tables on the outskirts and began to dig into his food. While he wasn't a loner or anything, Ken knew essentially no one at this place, causing him to be a little reserved.
A few minutes went by in peace before he was interrupted.
"Hey man, mind if I sit here?" A voice called out, causing Ken to roll his eyes.
"Sure." He replied between mouthfuls.
Tristan, the captain sat next to him in the next moment, dressed to the nines. His tailored black suit looked splendid, matching well with his whole boy band persona.
The guy placed his hand on Ken's leg, causing a shiver to run up his spine.
"I know you're probably a bit nervous since it's your first day and all, but I just wanted to let you know… You can always approach me for anything, and I mean anything." His words entered Ken's ears in almost a whisper, causing the hairs to stand on the back of his neck.
Just as he was about to get up and run in the opposite direction, a figure appeared from behind the Captain. She was dressed in a sleek black cocktail dress, revealing her long neck and petite shoulders.
Ken's eyes moved to her face, only to see her beautiful features smiling down at him. She honestly looked like a supermodel, though Ken would still put his girlfriend above her due to sentimental reasons.
"You must be Ken," She said, placing her hand upon the Captain's shoulder, "Tristan's told me so much about you."
Tristan removed his hand, his arms wrapping around the waist of the beautiful woman. "Ken, this is my fiance Amber. She's the captain of the cheer team."
"N-Nice to meet you." Ken stammered. His body suddenly relaxed, looking upon the Captain in a new light. While Ken might have thought he was into guys, seeing that he was engaged to the beautiful woman in his arms, he realized he'd been overreacting.
'Looks like he's not gay… But still, he's far too friendly.' Ken mused inwardly.
"Likewise. Why are you over here by yourself? Did you need us to introduce you to some people?" Amber asked, her intentions good.
However, Tristan spoke up before Ken could respond, "Ken's just a little overwhelmed, give him some time." He said, sending a wink Ken's way.
Like that, he got up and grabbed Amber's arm, "We'll chat later. Enjoy the food and the festivities." Tristan said, leaving the vicinity.
Ken let out a sigh, turning his attention back to his food. He was thankful that Tristan was not coming onto him, it would have been disastrous for his mood if he was being harassed by the Captain of his new team.

With his mood now improved, Ken finished his plate and grabbed another from the buffet. He was not going to pass up on free food, especially when it was this good.
"Hey buddy." A familiar voice called out, causing Ken to freeze.
"No way…"
