Mount Everest!

No sooner had Bi Fang’s voice fallen than Taseto sprang up with a swoosh, the legs of the stool scraping against the floor with a piercing screech. He placed his hands on the table, his face alight with surprise.

“Mount Everest! Is it that world’s highest peak?”

“Mr. Bi is going to climb Mount Jolmo Lungma?”

Bi Fang put down his knife and fork and, before he even had a chance to understand why the other party’s reaction was so strong, Hask knocked on the table with his knuckles and gave Taseto a glare. Though his tone was one of reprimand, it wasn’t too severe: “Taseto, just look at yourself! Now sit down!”

Taseto sat down, abashed.

After scolding his third son, Hask turned to Bi Fang with an apologetic face: “I’m terribly sorry for that scene, you must be amused. However, Taseto has been passionate about such adventures since he was a child, please forgive him.”

Bi Fang waved his hands, not minding at all, and nodded affirmatively: “That’s right, the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.”

Matthew was the first to express skepticism: “Have you climbed before?”

Though not well-versed in mountaineering, Matthew, who had wandered around, knew a lot, especially about Mount Everest.

The Earth’s highest point.

The region with the thinnest air, one of the places with the harshest environments. Sometimes, even coughing could cost someone their life, and just taking a breath could cause excruciating pain as if tearing the liver and splitting the gut.

Should an accident occur, even the bodies could only ever remain in that no-man’s land, becoming an eternal landmark.

It was a domain where every step had to be perfect; even though Bi Fang had created miracles time and again, the weight of being the world’s highest mountain was still an obstacle that made it hard to have complete confidence in him. Therefore, Matthew had to be clear, although it had never appeared on the live stream, perhaps Bi Fang was a mountain climber before he became a streamer…

“No.”

Matthew’s train of thought was interrupted, his pupils slowly dilating as his mouth opened unconsciously. After opening and closing it a few times without being able to speak, he finally managed to say, “Are you crazy!? How is that possible?”

Around the dining table, the Hask family also looked on in shock. Except for Taseto, the others were not keen on outdoor adventures, but that didn’t mean they were ignorant.

The perils of Mount Everest were well known to any Earthling, who, even if they couldn’t list them, were aware of its terrifying aspects.

“I’m not crazy.” Bi Fang, in contrast to everyone else, spoke calmly, picking up his knife and fork again to cut off a piece of veal steak and chew it. It took a good while before he swallowed, then tapped his head, “To me, adventure requires two most important things: a healthy body and a brain that can insight into the wilderness.”

“Coincidentally, Matthew, I have both. I am twenty-five this year, my bodily functions are at their peak, and I also possess one of the world’s top wilderness minds.”

“It’s completely… not the same thing. You haven’t even been there, never been there…”

Matthew stammered, unable to articulate, feeling that the notion was absurd. Announcing a bid to conquer the world’s highest peak seemed ludicrous for someone who had never climbed at high altitude.

Has he been possessed by Don Quixote? A madman?

Bi Fang, seeing the looks on their faces, knew they didn’t believe him. Indeed, someone who had never climbed a high-altitude mountain suddenly announcing their intention to conquer Mount Everest seemed nearly impossible.

He took up his knife and fork, dabbing a bit of sauce, and drew a rudimentary regional map on the white porcelain plate.

“Don’t worry, while Mount Everest is the world’s highest peak, it isn’t the most difficult one to climb. I’ve set myself a generous timeline; the plan spans two months, with a month dedicated to training. It’s mid-April now, and in one more month, it’ll be mid-May, the best time to climb Mount Everest. During this period, all my live streams will revolve around preparations for Mount Everest.”

“`

As the fork slid continuously, everyone’s attention was drawn to the black sauce, as if there truly was a towering mountain range there, standing as the highest peak under the firmament, upon the Earth.

“Mount Everest is located on the China-Nepal border, with India to the south and the Bay of Bengal to the east of India. In May, the continental cold air above the Bay of Bengal begins to retreat northward. The movement of the high and low-pressure fronts often coincides with the formation of a cyclonic flow, so once a cyclonic circulation forms over the Bay of Bengal and shows signs of moving northward, it is the best time to summit Mount Everest.

The climate around the Mount Everest area and the nearby peaks is complex and variable, with distinct monsoon characteristics. The weather changes are too unpredictable, so it’s essential to choose a stable climatic period for the ascent. Too early, and the monsoon winds haven’t stopped; too late, and the monsoon winds have shifted direction, neither of which is suitable for summiting. This weather window usually lasts a few days to ten days, and most ascents of Mount Everest are completed within this timeframe. Everything coincides perfectly with my timing plan.”

Matthew, Hask, Taseto, and the others stood behind Bi Fang’s chair, blinking at the map drawn on the plate, then looking at each other with confusion.

Those present were all amateurs, hardly understanding but feeling quite impressed…

It seems, rather, that it might not be so difficult?

Indeed, Master Fang (Mr. Bi) was well-prepared as expected!

“Why, why does the formation of a cyclonic circulation stabilize things?” Taseto, the only one with some outdoor sports knowledge, struggled to pronounce the technical term, which he had heard for the first time, and found it a bit difficult to say accurately after hearing it only once.

Bi Fang looked around at everyone’s eyes and knew they didn’t understand a thing, so he dipped his fork in the sauce again and drew several circles: “It’s quite simple. To explain it simply, it’s like the eye of a typhoon, which, compared to the eyewall, is relatively still. Therefore, the climate is stable.”

“Oh~~”

It seemed they truly understood, as everyone let out a collective “oh.”

Matthew, who had been quite worried, seemed to be swayed as well, starting to feel it wasn’t impossible after all. He was just a layman, after all, listening to Master Fang speak with such authority.

Sure enough, a layman is a layman; the path he must walk is still long.

Seeing the skepticism in everyone’s eyes turn to seven parts trust, Bi Fang couldn’t help but smile.

Is climbing Mount Everest really that simple?

What he had said was correct, but that didn’t mean climbing Mount Everest was easy. Choosing the right summiting window was just lowering the requirements from one hundred percent to ninety percent.

If you want to challenge high-altitude mountains, the first step is low-altitude outdoor activities, physical training, and learning the basic techniques. A beginner, utilizing all of the weekends, can complete this stage within a year.

The second step is to start entering high-altitude areas with thin air. Before attempting to climb Mount Everest, it’s best to have 2-3 high-altitude climbing experiences.

Gradually proceed from mountains of 6000 meters as a starting point, then to 7000 meters and 8000 meters peaks.

This stage can take as little as 1 year, but for ordinary people it requires 2-3 years.

And for him, there’s only one month!n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Twirling the fork in his hand, Bi Fang’s gaze was resolute and fearless.

Above 8500 meters, that is the height where human morality cannot demand anything, it is a forbidden zone for humans.

With this thought, Bi Fang even felt a surge of excitement. In this life or the previous one, so many had gone forth, issuing challenge after challenge to Mount Everest. He had also dreamt of it, but that place also buried countless challengers. He was neither qualified nor powerful, only able to dream of it.

Never before had he been so close to his Goddess Peak as he was today.

As if,

he could touch the sky with his hand.

Bi Fang smiled. He had never stopped his pace, the new journey had just begun.
