William looked at the effects of the new Order Element with awe. Just the fact that he was able to use the Element was more than enough for him, but already having access to the Territory of Order and the Order Elemental was even better.

Not only that, but William would be able to consume the five hundred Order Fruits that had stocked up over the course of his travels, meaning he could instantly reach fifty percent Comprehension!

All was well in the World of Efretta, at least in William's books.

I should listen to what Order said, though. I don't exactly know what it means to "overdo" it, but I can guess that it doesn't want me using too much of its Mana. William thought to himself.

It wasn't like he planned to do so in the first place, especially since Order was supposed to be an incredibly rare and powerful Element. Its appearance would probably stir waves among the Heavens, something William didn't care to do even if he had already angered them.

William kept things simple by calling a hint of Order Mana to his fingertip and pressing it lightly into the ground. He had already seen the effects of the Order Element before, but he wanted to get a feel for how much strength he needed to use in a battle if push came to shove.

William didn't even feel the sensation of his finger touching earth, as the individual particles were disassembled by the Order Mana before they even had a chance to reach him. With his Vision Talent, William could barely make out some extremely small objects dispersing into the air, while a few others sunk into the ground.

The lighter particles of the Element float, while the heavier ones sink. After that, the only ones remaining are the neutral particles that don't have much of a purpose... William deduced the functions of the Order Element relatively quickly.

With a small amount of control, William was able to force the dispersed particles to come back together, but in a neat and tightly packed formation that didn't resemble the exact same particle structure. In fact, it was much denser and less susceptible to natural weathering.

If William's Vision Talent was a little better, he might have seen that the atomic composition of the material itself had changed, and it could be considered a completely different kind of Earth at this point.

In short, the Order Element was able to break up something weak, call back its component parts, reform them, and make them stronger. It made William wonder if he could do the same thing with living beings.

What if I could reform one of my Companion Beasts' bodies to make them even stronger?

-I'll save you the wasted Points on the attempt. You're not strong enough.

Really? William was slightly disappointed, but he felt that it was already. The System didn't say that it wasn't possible, which means he still had a chance to do so in the future.

He performed a few more tests, quickly growing accustomed to how much strength he should use when casting Order Spells. His fluidity was mostly enhanced by the Mana Dominator Talent, which made casting Magic both easier and more efficient.

Next, William upgraded the Karma Element one Rank at a time, incredibly cautious and not willing to let down his guard one bit. He did disable the Resist Karma Talent for the first few upgrades, but only for the first few Ranks so he could sense the Karma Element's growth.

At first, everything was completely fine, with no noticeable effects to either his mind, body, or soul. After reaching A-Rank, however, William felt an uneasy sensation and immediately reactivated the Resist Karma Talent.

The Karma Threads poking out of his chest shuddered slightly, before light waves of pain entered William's body from each individual Thread. The weakest Threads, tied to individuals like random guards on the street from cities he had visited, trembled wildly before thinning and fraying like a worn rope.

As time passed and the upgrade continued, William saw the weakest Thread snap, his connection with a bellhop at one of the Hotels suddenly severed, a thin strand falling to the ground and slowly disappearing before William had a chance to grab it.

His body entered a period of weakness like the System warned, but it wasn't as strong as expected, only hindering his movements by a few percent, while the rest of him was unaffected.

-This is the effects of the Resist Karma Talent, as it says in the description.

William nodded in understanding, having already read through the information of all the Resistance Talents. The only part of his Status Panel that he hadn't read through yet was the Jack Of All Trades Talent, but only because the description was so long that he hadn't yet bothered.

That said, William planned to check Jack Of All Trades once he finished upgrading and testing the Karma and Fate Elements. This way he could avoid any accidents like when he used the Vision Talent and accidentally switched between modes.

-Oh, you plan to read something for once?

Can you stop giving me trouble about that? I've read tons of stuff over the last year. I even went to libraries to search for more information on the Thieves' Guild a while back!

-You did it because you had to, not because you wanted to.

I could have used the Ask Function, couldn't I?

-At the time, you were too afraid of spending Potential Points. You wouldn't have used it even if I only charged you a few dozen Points.

... William didn't have a comeback to refute the System's words. He used to be incredibly stingy with his Potential Points, even failing to acquire new Talents for a long time because he was afraid of wasting them on some useless Talent.

He continued upgrading the Karma Element to S-Rank, snapping a few more of his Karma Threads in the process, but still among the weakest ones. After a while, William realized that he could focus his resistance on specific Threads, making sure that he only lost connections with the useless individuals.

Person after person found themselves losing their memories of William, perceiving him as only a fuzzy thought in the back of their minds, before receding completely to the point where they couldn't even remember his name.

Only when rumors of William's feats were brought up in taverns or marketplaces did the people remember that they had once met with him, but the memories would promptly disappear not long later, as if they had absolutely nothing to do with the man.

William had the same experience, even his amazing memory unable to recall a single detail about the people whose Karma Threads had snapped. He managed to store the remainder of the severed Threads inside his Specialized Titanium Space Rings before they disappeared, but he could care less about those he forgot about.
