Chapter 560 Collosus
All the recruits behind Rain nodded silently. They were nervous since that was their first real battle, and their first job was to invade the enemy's territory like that… It sure made them feel overwhelmed.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
While looking in the distance, Rain could see some guards around the city, but their numbers were quite small. Rain had an easy time snipping them… his goal was to scare the shit out of the people there, so he would achieve that better by appearing with an army that all of a sudden.
Even though they were over one kilometer away, Rain managed to hit them in the head silently and make all of them fall… his dexterity was that high, but he didn't think that it was that useful.
In the end, the group was found when they began to approach the lights of the city… the sound of their armor also revealed their positions as well, so it couldn't be helped.
At first, the reaction of the people there was of completely shock, but then terror began to spread among them. While running away and leaving their homes, the inhabitants began to escape.
"It is the monster! The red blood monster!"
Chaos began to spread like wildfire… Rain never heard anyone calling him that, but apparently, it was a nickname that was pretty famous around those parts and invoked absolute terror in the hearts of those who heard it.
"What the heck… it seems that someone has been spreading fake news about me," Rain thought while frowning.
Although most people tried to run away from him, some people left their houses and actually marched toward Rain and his regiment. Still, they stopped and pointed their hands toward him and his army when they had a clear view of them. They were a bit too far away, though.
"It seems that they don't know it… that I can see a magic barrier here," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
An even bigger magic barrier was protecting the capital of the magic people. It was even bigger than the one that Joanis had employed… At that point in time, it was clear that they received technology from someone who had ties with Joanis and despite that, they still ignored it and they just wanted to kill all humans or perhaps just Rain.
"Either way, I will learn more once we free some people from this area," Rain thought and then he began to cross the barrier.
Rain's warriors quickly followed him from behind without hesitation. When that happened, they soon found several parts of the city that looked like chairs, statues and even walls starting to move… they were actually golems.
As if that wasn't enough, the golems began to move together and soon they began to become a much bigger one. Rain couldn't help but blink in surprise when he saw that… thanks to the magic barrier, he couldn't see where the casters were, but it seemed that they did a good job combining their skills.
Before long, the creature became one hundred meters tall and each of its steps began to crush parts of the city and it also made it sink…
"I guess that they don't know the square cub law," Rain thought.
The square-cube law is a principle that describes how the volume, surface area, and other physical properties of an object or organism change when it is scaled up or down in size. The law explains that as an object grows larger, as their volume increases at a faster rate than its surface area.
This has important implications for understanding why very large objects, such as buildings or animals, can struggle to support their own weight and why they might "sink" to the ground.
The problem arises when the object's ability to support its own weight is determined by its surface area. In many cases, an object relies on the structural integrity of its surface area to support the mass contained within it.
When an object is scaled up to a very large size, its volume and weight increase dramatically, but the surface area that supports that weight does not increase at the same rate. As a result, the pressure, force per unit area, exerted on the object's surface becomes greater.
Thanks to the giant golem, the other magic people hidden in the city were able to approach and assume their attacking stances without any issues and they looked pretty confident as well… before long, they summoned and began to fire numerous projectiles at Rain and his army. Fire, blood, water, wind… all of that was being shot toward them, but the warriors blocked them with their shields.
"Advance, I will take care of this big fella," Rain declared.
The recruits… or perhaps the new members of the raging Phoenix began to march without hesitation. Their steps were slow but firm as they blocked the attacks coming from the same directions. Still, when they got too close to the golem, the creature raised its leg to step on them… however, when the leg stopped being lifted… a powerful impact made the creature tremble and almost fall backwards.
While wobbling around, the creature took several steps backward that ended up making the entire city tremble. The attacks of the magic people stopped as they lost their balance and soon they looked at Rain, only to see him with his arms crossed on the same spot as he had been before.
The creature almost could show some shock in its rocky face as it recovered its balance… before long, the creature raised its arms toward Rain and fired countless earth spears at him.
Even though the battlefield had a magic-nullifying barrier, the golem managed to create spears out of the earth of its body and throw them at Rain. It looked like magic, but it shouldn't have been possible within the barrier's rules… only some beings, human beings, should be able to avoid that under the control of the caster of the barrier.
