Chapter 226
As soon as they left the castle, Sir Cain greeted Penelope with utmost courtesy.
"Milady, you're leaving already?"
"Ah, Sir Cain. You must have had a hard time waiting outside."
"Not at all. However..."
Sir Cain paused mid-sentence as he noticed Penelope's reddened eyes. His forehead furrowed instantly, veins bulging in anger.
"..."
Sir Cain glared at Ahwin, his gaze practically demanding an explanation for what had happened inside. Ahwin, avoiding eye contact, awkwardly looked elsewhere.@@novelbin@@
Suppressing his rising anger, Sir Cain finally lowered his gaze to the ground and spoke in a subdued tone.
"As I feared... it seems the conversation didn't go well."
"Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. Can we discuss it as we go?"
"Of course. I’ve already arranged for the carriage to depart immediately."
At Sir Cain's signal, the knights brought over their horses, clearly anticipating that the negotiations would fall apart sooner rather than later.
At that moment, someone called out to Penelope.
"Is that Lady Penelope? Fancy meeting you here, it's been a while."
What do you think?
