Chapter 222
Viscount Lindo scanned the room, his brows furrowing instinctively. He could sense that Penelope was playing him for a fool.
‘What, are you going to do something about it just by staring?’
This was the kind of battle where the side with the thicker skin always won. As long as you had a plausible excuse, you could say anything to make your opponent back down.@@novelbin@@
After all, the first strike had come from their side. Claiming they couldn’t verify the letter’s authenticity, they had left Penelope waiting outside the gates for five hours.
With a calm demeanor, Penelope spoke again without hesitation.
"I’d love to accompany you to meet Duke Quantis and explain everything that happened today in great detail. Would you guide me there?"
"...Given the Baron of Halo’s current condition, it might be better for you to rest here tonight. I’ll ensure the Duke is informed, and you can visit the castle early tomorrow morning," Lindo replied, his tone softening.
"How very thoughtful of you, Viscount Lindo. I truly appreciate your kindness," Penelope answered with a bright, innocent expression, her eyes sparkling.
Lindo’s face briefly contorted in disbelief. He could clearly see through her act, but he wisely chose not to react.
If Penelope were to visit the castle now, she could use the guards’ negligence to position herself on higher ground with the Duke. That was a risk Lindo couldn’t take.
"Rest well. We’ll see each other again tomorrow," Lindo said, suppressing his irritation as he turned to leave.
"Safe travels. Have a pleasant night," Penelope called after him cheerfully, still seated.
What do you think?
