Harold stood before Ethan, solemnly reciting the Abdication and Succession Proclamation.
It was probably the first time I’d ever seen Harold speak so much in one go.

As Harold officially declared his abdication, applause erupted from all around.
Like a well-rehearsed orchestra, everyone clapped in unison and ceased at precisely the same moment. (There were actual protocols for when to clap and when to stop.)
At that exact moment, Ethan and I stepped forward.
