Chapter 394 – Strange Air
Max felt relieved after installing FreakingNoob and LovelyOtter as mods. He could finally concentrate on the game.
The new quest was to get Doggie from the Stable behind the school. Looking back at the quests from before, and the fact the guiding line was pretty big, he was sure it wasn't just a normal dog.
"Will it be a Manticore, a Cerberus, or even a Dragon called Doggie?" Max mused alone as he followed the guiding line. "Nothing is impossible in this game. And nothing can surprise me again. Come at me whatever you are, Doggie!"
— This guy learned
— Experience is the best teacher, as they said.. But isn't this too extreme? He shouldn't let himself fall that low.
— Nothing can surprise him anymore, huh. What confidence!
— I like that confidence. Care to share it slightly with me? I am so shy that I can't even talk to a girl.
— ^ This! Share it with us, Breeze!
"Well, I can't say anything. Growing your confidence is nothing but simple stuff." Max raised his hand and stopped moving. He looked at the camera. "Just be confident."
Max's advice was the stuff he actually implemented to get this far. He had used this to make himself look better.
After taking westward, around the academy, he found himself in the area with many animals. The stable was located at the end of this area, pretty big for just a small animal.
Among them, one was glowing brightly. It was a small dog from a Shiba Inu breed. The dog was cute and energetic, greeting Max who approached it with a cute bark.
"Woof!"
Max stopped in front of the stable and crouched. He looked at the small animal in disbelief.
"What the hell is this ball of cuteness?" He asked as he took the dog in his hands. "Where is the monster? The manticore? Cerberus?! Hey, tell me where the monster I need to slay!"
— There is no monster…
— Your quest is to take the doggie to the teacher office, not slay some monsters
— Breeze, are you crazy? This is such an easy job. Why the heck do you need to slay a monster?
— This is mad. Breeze can't think straight anymore. He has read between the lines too much.
Reading the chat, Max raised the dog and inspected it.
"You mean I don't have to fight anything and just bring this one to teacher Prilly? I don't believe it."
It was a natural course of action. There were just too many traps laid in this game already. Not only that, but there were many twists he experienced in the past games he played.
"Well, if there is no twist, then I will be grateful." Max decided to accept the quest as it was and put the dog on his head. "Let's go, little guy. We will meet your owner, Prilly."
"Woof!" The dog answered as if it understood what he talked about.
The guiding line was updated once Max left the stable. It extended to a different building from the main one, to where the teacher office was located.
He walked through the animals around him and immediately entered the teacher building. The strangeness only began at that point.
"Hmm?"
Looking around, Max found out that there was no one in the building. He didn't even find someone near the receptionist or a guard that stopped him from entering.
More importantly…
"The air has turned purple and twisted. This… Isn't this some kind of event?"
As he said that, a notification rang in his mind.
[Quest updated!]
[Strangeness has been found in the teacher's building. Find out what caused it and return Doggie to Prilly.]
[Main quest: Find the source of the strange air with Doggie.]
"Woof! Grrr!"
Doggie suddenly barked and growled. It jumped down from his head and faced a certain direction.
Sensing that something had started, Max immediately activated his spell.
"Earth Waepon – Spear."
A spear, with a shaft around 2 meters long, appeared in his hand. There was no reason to choose a short weapon like a sword if it was fragile. At least he could keep his distance with the enemy with a spear.
"Is there something over in that direction, Doggie?"
"Woof!"
"I see. So it's in that direction." He said, grinning wickedly. "I will trust you and your nose, Doggie. Tell me where the wrong thing is."
"Woof. Wooof!"
With that, the dog broke into a run and Max followed it. He didn't even hesitate, knowing that the dog was part of the event.
While running, he looked at the camera and laughed merrily.
"See? I know something was wrong with the quest. There is no way it will be something as simple as taking the dog to the teacher!"
— This guy learned
— Tsk. And here I hope to lower his guard by telling him that it would be fine.
— No one believes us lol. Rather, Breeze has more experience now so he won't be fooled easily
— Hmm, let me think of a next game where we can fool him, hehehe
— The air stinks… It must be BloodSucker's breath.
— This noble breath smelt like a ripe wine. Don't compare it with this foul air
Max kept running in the hallway that seemed endless, following the dog. The space folded. The hallway was way longer and way bigger than what it was supposed to be.
Doggie kept running past the hundred doors until it finally stopped at one that spewed strange purple air from within. The door screamed dangerous.
"Grrrrrrrrr." Doggie seemed to agree with Max's opinion.
"Stay here, Doggie. This will be dangerous."
"Woof!" Doggie barked loudly as if complaining about what he had said. It approached him and barked once again. "Woof!"
"You want to come?" He asked.
"Auuuu!" Doggie suddenly howled. It raised its head and its body became bigger.
Its face became longer, its ears became bigger. The light brown fur turned dark gray and its golden eyes became piercing.
The cute and small Shiba Inu from earlier was gone, replaced by an angry wolf with sharp fangs baring at the strange door.
"... So it's not Doggie but a Wolfie?" Max's reaction was lackluster as he sighed.
— No reaction Continue reading at empire
— Look, no reaction…
— He has become tired of this nonsense.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
— lolol, look at his face.
"Yeah, guys. I am tired of this shit." Max said to the chat as he looked at the door. "And now, without further ado."
He approached the door and kicked it hard. The door was slammed open with a resounding bam.
At the same time, he shouted.
"FBI, OPEN UP!"
