Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Yang Yi had just left the house when Suna woke up as well.

She opened her door, and the cold sea breeze swept across her body, but then...she decisively shut it tight back.

Ten minutes later, the door opened again.

This time, Suna was fully equipped, wearing a sweater and woolen trousers, a cotton hat on her head, and long woolen boots on her feet.

Although her witch’s attire was somewhat warm, it still wasn’t as effective as clothing specifically designed for cold weather.

Yang Yi’s sharp eyes quickly caught a detail — Suna had obviously “gained a bit of weight.” He teased her, saying:

"Is it that cold? We haven't even entered the extreme winter sea yet."

Suna didn’t respond, silently accepting the fact that she was cold.

Meanwhile, Yang Yi was in the courtyard doing his morning exercises.

After finishing his morning training, Yang Yi went to the courtyard to check on the dried fish.

It would probably take another day or two before they were fully hardened.

Ever since discovering the usefulness of the skeletal arms, Yang Yi had become a ruthless capitalist, ordering the skeletal arms to roast fish and dry Eyeball Fruits day and night, with no breaks.

They worked full-time, 24 hours a day, because the undead couldn’t complain about being tired.

Even if they wanted to, they didn’t have mouths to speak.

After inspecting the fish, Yang Yi prepared to go fishing.

He had tried getting the skeletal arms to fish for him, but they were too stupid and didn’t know when to pull the rod, so the attempt had failed.

Fishing was something he had to do himself.

The whole morning passed, and he hadn’t caught a single fish.

It might have been the effect of the extreme winter sea.

It wasn’t until the afternoon that he finally hooked something, immediately pulling the rod.

"Whoa, that’s pretty big!"

Yang Yi pulled hard, but nearly got yanked into the sea.

So, he changed tactics, loosening the line to let the fish tire itself out before reeling it in, entering a long draw battle. 

Twenty minutes later, he finally saw the true appearance of the fish.

"What is this?"

A large, greyish-white circular disc emerged, covered in semi-transparent jelly-like tentacles.

Yang Yi gave a strong tug and lifted the disc, which was about a metre in diametre.

It was only then that he realised what it truly was: an enormous jellyfish, semi-transparent, with its underside facing up as Yang Yi hauled it out.

The jellyfish’s head was a large circular disc, seemingly made of bone-like material — very hard.

Yang Yi prodded it with a spear several times, and after a while, it stopped moving entirely.

The jellyfish's head shell was tough, with high calcium and iron content, making it extremely solid and heat-resistant.

Yang Yi lamented not having a pot, but now he had unwittingly caught one from the sea.

He picked up the Iron Crown Jellyfish, moved his arm out of the way, and then placed it on the campfire with its head facing down.

Soon, the jellyfish's body began to melt, turning into a gooey mess that boiled and bubbled.

Yang Yi tried a sip of it but couldn’t taste anything, as his tongue went numb and lost sensation.

"Did this jellyfish grow up eating Sichuan peppercorns?"

He almost threw it away but suddenly realised that it could be used as Sichuan pepper oil!

He then took out a bottle to collect the melted jellyfish.

As for the remaining Iron Crown head, pot. 

By evening, Yang Yi hadn’t caught anything else, so he decided to stop fishing and focused on physical training instead.

Suddenly, he noticed the sea chart had changed.

A small island appeared in the top right corner. Although only part of it was visible, it seemed to be quite large.

Yang Yi picked up the crystal ball and examined it closely.

They were already near the Extreme Winter Sea, so how did they happen to come across an island?

After thinking for a moment, he decided to head over and check it out.

Ignoring the island seemed like an unreliable choice.

As he changed course and sailed towards the island, the sea chart began displaying it's full image.

Yang Yi misjudged the size of the island; it wasn’t as large as he imagined. Rather, it was long and narrow, like a spindle, with the widest part in the middle.

Stretching about 10 kilometres, with the widest part around 2, it was bigger than the previous Spider Island, but not by much.

There were no other players’ ships nearby, so it was unlikely there would be an ambush.

Yang Yi continued approaching.

Before nightfall, the Nightmare Star stopped about two nautical miles from the island.

He pulled out a telescope, then gasped.

"Huh! How is there a ship on this island? Was it blown here by the sea wind?"

"Wait a minute!"

Yang Yi became nervous.

He spotted a pair of green, glistening eyes on the shoreline!

Because of the dim lighting, he couldn’t clearly make out what it was, however it was probably some kind of wild beast.

So, he switched to his left eye with night vision.

"A plaid shirt...is that a player?" Yang Yi was a little surprised. "Why are they crawling on the ground?"

He felt something was off and decided to call Suna over to take a look.

"Suna, come to the bow of the ship," he sent a message.

"What's going on?"

"I found an island. There’s a player with a furry face crawling on the ground!"

"I’ll be right there!"

Suna hurried over and snatched the telescope from Yang Yi to have a look.

Yang Yi, meanwhile, stared at the crystal ball, puzzled.

If the strange creature had once been a player, then where was their ship?

It couldn’t have swum there, right?

Suna continued watching with great interest, taking her time before finally putting down the telescope.

"His body must have undergone some kind of transformation. No normal person’s arms are that long!"

"We’ll have to capture one and dissect it to find out..."

"Let’s leave it for tomorrow. It’s too late today!"

Yang Yi steered the Nightmare Star away.

By nightfall, he was back in the captain’s quarters, lying on his bed, thinking about the strange person on the island.

Unlike Suna, he wasn’t interested in the creature’s bodily transformation, but was more curious as to why he hadn’t noticed its ship.

After thinking for a long time, he came up with three possible scenarios.

First, the ship was dismantled by other players.

Second, the ship was invisible.

Third, the ship disappeared after the player died.

All three possibilities seemed plausible.

As for the last one, Yang Yi speculated it could be part of the system’s recovery mechanism.

After a player died, their ship didn’t drift mindlessly, instead disappearing after some time.

"System recovery? If it’s a special ship, doesn’t that mean it’s a one-off? It would be gone for good, since there’s only one of them!"

"Or maybe after recovery, the blueprints appear in another form?"

Yang Yi wasn’t sure, but he hoped to find out the answer in the future.
