Chapter 311 The Destruction Is Inevitable!
After their first meeting, they had several other meetings where Evelyn would ask him about his past, and as they talked, little by little, they grew closer. They found happiness in these small meetings and looked forward to meeting each other.
But not everyone was happy about their encounter.
(A/N: The "Elven language"/the weird words will only be used in some places where the elves would still be talking in their language. Only when they are present along with humans would the two of them.)
"There was no point in talking about this; she won't listen to me anymore." The young girl who previously gave the guards the order to attack the mage spoke with an annoyed look on her face while looking at the person sitting on the throne.
"What the priestess said is indeed concerning; we cannot let that Nathaniel Emberforge get in the way of our plans." An old-looking female elf, standing with the support of a wooden stick, suggested, "Maybe you should contact the human king about this matter, Your Majesty!"
"What you said is correct." Nhalos, who had been silent all this time, spoke up suddenly, "Call the healer from the Hero party. We need to get the Hero to agree with our plan. There cannot be any complications, or we would have to deal with him like we dealt with the previous hero."
A hint of cold light flashed through his eyes while speaking the last words; his eyes glanced at the priestess for a moment before he looked at Aanna standing in the corner of the hall. She bowed and left the room.

*Clank!*
Moments later, Elena walked into the throne room, not knowing why she was called. Even then, she maintained a proper posture and a calm look on her face.
"Welcome, Miss Elena. I am sure you are aware of the little arrangement between me and the Kings of the other human kingdoms." Seeing the young girl standing in front of him, Nhalos smiled with a kind and graceful look on his face.
"Indeed, I am privy to some information." Hearing the words of the elf King, her eyes sharpened as she spoke in a calm demeanor.
"I am sure you also know what you have to do with the hero?" The old woman glanced at her coldly while speaking.
"I can make him get on board with anything. The problem is the little girl; I am not sure about her." A calculative glint of light flashed through her eyes as Elena put forward her suggestion.
She wanted to use this opportunity to get rid of the girl whom Lucian liked not so secretly. She used her own body to get the boy, but he would still look at her sometimes, and she could not accept that.
"We will look into it." Aware of what the girl was planning, the old woman snorted coldly, while Nhalos just smiled calmly before replying, "We will prepare to talk to your king, but you need to make sure the hero does not cause any problems."
Elena nodded and glanced at the elven king; she wanted to ask something but did not know if she should or not. She did not want to endanger her efforts because of her curiosity.
"Is there something else?" Seeing the look on her face, Nhalos asked with a harmless smile on his face.
"I do not know if this is my place to speak or not, but aren't the elves supposed to be the worshippers of the World Tree?" Elena asked with a confused look on her face. "Didn't your race vow to protect her? So why are you helping us with this plan?"
"You are right…" Nhalos replied with the same smile on his face, but he turned to look deep into her eyes. His smile was no longer harmless. "It's not your place to speak. That's all you need to know. You can leave if you are done with your questions."
He gestured with his hands, pointing toward the open doors. Elena shivered chilling tone in his words before she bowed and left the room. Seeing her back disappear into the long corridors, the old woman turned to look at the king.
"Even though that little girl was out of line, she is right. We elves vowed to protect the divine tree for the rest of our lives. It is the source of life and all the magic, after all." The old woman expressed her dissatisfaction, "Not only does the divine tree keep nature in balance, but it is also our ancient heritage."
"I understand what you are saying." Nhalos nodded at the old woman gently. "The divine tree has been everything to me since I know about it, but you have seen what that divination showed."
Hearing his words, a look of horror dawned on the faces of both the old woman and the priestess. They recalled the horrors of the future they had seen in the so-called divination.
"The World Tree would be the source of the destruction of the world, and we cannot let that happen. Maybe everything we have witnessed up until now was all a ruse from the World Tree to make us lower our guard."
"Indeed, that was a very terrible future." The old woman spoke with lingering fear in her voice. "It also said that one of the royal high elves would lead us to destruction, and the other would try to prevent it. I just wonder where that traitor is."
Hearing her words, Nhalos' hands grasped the handles of his eyes, lost in a distant memory.
"There is no need to talk about that person." He waved his hands after coming out of his thoughts.
"Umm, Your Majesty.." The priestess called out to him; there was concern etched on her face. "Can we keep this plan a secret from her?"
"No need to worry about it; I have taken measures to make sure she could not look inside the palace without me knowing, and I have tested it well; it works. Besides, now that she is busy with her talks with that guy, she rarely looks around anymore." Nhalos started explaining with a confident smirk on his face.
'Not just him, but not even the will of the world will be able to peek into this castle anymore!'

At the same time, somewhere far away, standing at the edge of a faraway cliff, an old man looked at the beautiful sight of a green-haired woman talking with a young man. Seeing the warm smile on her face, a painful and sad smile surfaced on his face as the man left a few words lingering behind while disappearing into thin air.
"Destruction is inevitable; maybe he can save us both somehow….."
