Chapter 764: Javier
Chapter 764: Javier
Cassarae was caught between two conflicting emotions.
On the one hand, she was pissed. Sylas shouldn't have done something like this without even speaking to her. Although she was smart enough to realize that that was the point-by
catching her off guard, he would certainly catch Gregory off guard-ultimately, it was definitely crossing over a line.
But on the other hand...
Damn, that was satisfying.
This asshole had been giving her nothing but trouble for months on end. At first, he had started off as a minor annoyance until he began to worm his way into every facet of her life.
It was getting to the point where she spent more time managing the internal structures of her city than actually expanding and capitalizing on their strengths.
The fact they were back in the top ten at all was a miracle. Though, the funding that her father and Sylas were able to provide were an enormous part of that.
But the other much larger reason was that despite her personality, Cassarae was very good at meeting people where they were. It was why she was accepting of Sylas' personality despite all the reasons it should have clashed with hers. It was why she had scolded Olivia for taking a private matter and using it as a reason to target Sylas for, albeit small, losses. It was also why she didn't hesitate to use Tasia even though she could see at a glance that she was pining after her man.
Now, though, that infectious cancer was finally dead.
The Sergeant and the Alchemist summons were still present, but without Gregory, Cassarae could already feel that they had lost much of their teeth.
Without having to worry about Gregory, his plans, and his schemes, things had suddenly become several times easier.
After a long while, Cassarae exhaled and gave Nosphaleen a glance. She had heard of this woman before, but she hadn't had a tail for legs before. It seemed that the competition had taken itself out.
**
BANG!
A man kicked at the back of a couch so hard that the wooden frame inside shattered to pieces and its body was sent flying into a wall.
The drywall broke apart, the studs behind it rattling and shaking down to the very foundation of the house.
"FUCK! ALL THAT WORK DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN!"
He roared out to the top of his lungs, a violent swirl of Aether buffeting against the windows and sending them bulging and bowing in and out. If not for the fact they were somewhat reinforced thanks to the region of Guiz City he lived in, they would have long since shattered.
[Javier Munich (FFF+)]
[Level: 35]
Javier wasn't the only pissed off party in the room. There were three other individuals, each one clenching their fists and jaws.
They had put in almost a year of hard work and effort, scratching and clawing for every little thing.
Finally, Javier managed to become a Viscount and they became Noblemen and women...
All for Sylas Grimblade to swoop in and destroy their hard work in just three days.
At first, they didn't think things would be so bad. Even if they failed to become the City Lord, becoming Dukes wasn't a bad goal either. At the very least, they could use it as a jump-off point for bigger and better things.
But in the end, to their shock, Sylas Grimblade just directly disbanded the city, leaving them stranded and their Noble Titles utterly worthless.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
The value of the Title was in far more than what they could do in the city alone. The range worked 50 kilometers out of city limits, and that had helped them a great deal in hunting, gathering resources, and clearing missions for Merits, F-Coins, and Treasures.
Without it, it was like the floor had been pulled out from underneath them. And it wasn't just them either that would suffer, but their subordinates under them, and their families beneath even them.
A sigh came from a woman as she unclenched her fists. She had some age showing at the corner of her eyes, but she had a rare spryness and vitality in her body.
Not that she could display much of it now.
[Rosa Vellen (FFF+)]
[Level: 34]
She stood to her feet. "I do not know about the rest of you all, but I will not be joining this mission."
After saying these words, she made to leave. But it was Javier that caught her by the crook of her arm.
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" he growled out between his teeth.
Rosa ripped her arm out of his grasp. "Watch yourself, Javier. I came to this meeting to see if we could lean on one another to make it through the next wave, but it's clear that you're not in the right head space for that. If you make a decision out of rage and fury, you will come to regret it."
"Do you have any idea how much we've lost?! And you want to skip out instead of clawing it back?!"
"Wake up, Javier!" Rosa suddenly raised her voice, something she almost never did. "We are nothing but pawns in this game! Do you know how long ago it was Sylas Grimblade killed a General? It was over seven months ago! What were you doing seven months ago?! Were you even Level 10 yet?!"
Veins bulged across Javier's forehead, but he had no rebuttal.
"If you want to form a temporary alliance between our parties and head toward another System City, away from all of this, I will agree. But if you want me to go and throw my life away for a suicidal Quest, you've got another thing coming."
After saying this, Rosa continued on her way out. But she had only just been about to make it to the door when two burly men blocked her path.
Her expression changed. "What is the meaning of this?"
"If you want to be a cowardly little ant for the rest of your life, fine." Javier growled. "But you can leave everything you have here first. Then, we'll lock you up until this battle is over."
