Chapter 453 Hunting An Ember Wyvern (2)
Realizing that the human would only continue to fire spells if it used its wings, the wyvern slowly landed, furiously gazing at Shye as it did so.
'Heh, Nice! Finally…'
Seeing the wyvern decide to stop using its wings, Shye inwardly celebrated, satisfied that it would no longer employ hit-and-run tactics.
Like this, he could at least have the chance to deal serious damage to the enormous draconian.
'That part was boring…I shall make this one exciting!'
If Shye could hear himself from another person's perspective, even he would think he was crazy.
After all, he was facing a furious (A) ranked wyvern, yet, he was still thinking about showmanship when he should be worrying about whether he would survive!
The system had truly made him a bit unhinged.
Luckily, he didn't notice his slight craziness, since he needed to be a bit crazy to achieve his goals.
If he was too sane, he would surely have a hard time.
…After a short yet intense staredown, Shye and the wyvern ferociously advanced towards one another.
Unfortunately, for a monstrous creature of such a size, a human would almost always be more agile.
Thus, after dodging a straightforward bite attack with a clean sidestep to the right, Shye managed to draw first blood by swinging both greatswords down with all his might towards its extended neck.
The Ember Wyvern's scales were very tough, though, negating around 60% of the damage he dealt.
Still, Shye's strength attribute when holding two greatswords was a whopping 442 points— just a bit short compared to the Ember Wyvern itself.
Hence, the remaining 40% power of his attack was enough to allow his greatswords to cut moderately deep into the draconian's neck.
Hurt for the first time in years, the Ember Wyvern roared in a mix of anger and pain, hurting Shye's ears and forcing him to cover it with his hands.
He could have capitalized on the huge chance.
Unfortunately, his eardrums were those of a human, and his body instinctively protected it from being ruthlessly battered by the wyvern's roar.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Grabbing both greatswords again, Shye leaped up to strike once more at the previous wound he inflicted on the Ember Wyvern's neck.
However, he was a bit too optimistic and eager, thinking that the wyvern would allow him to do so.
With a single flap of the enormous creature's wings, Shye was blown away, his back making intimate contact with a rocky pillar.
He had already resolved himself to a tough fight, though, hence, he did not care about failing a single attack.
Standing up after brushing off the slight back pain, Shye slowly advanced once more toward the creature.
Of course, to farm a few extra points, he made sure to look extra menacing and courageous as he did so.
There would be a presentation day, after all.
…This time, the wyvern didn't dare underestimate Shye, momentarily circling and observing him first before carefully decreasing the distance between them.
And since a monstrous creature was bound to have longer limbs than a human, it was inevitable that the wyvern would strike first, breaking the intense standoff.
Using a spinning tail swipe attack to force Shye to jump, the wyvern's chest started generating flames.
Then, soon after, it viciously breathed the flames out towards Shye, who was suspended in mid-air.
Only, the attack hit nothing as the ashen-haired young human suddenly disappeared from the wyvern's sight, leaving it dumbstruck and confused.
The human should have had no means of dodging.
Well, the wyvern was gravely mistaken as Shye had numerous tricks and skills to get out of harm's way even while in mid-air.
However, he chose to use a trick he had learned from Reginald: clinging tightly to the passing body part of the monster with his weapon.
Soon enough, the Ember Wyvern also realized what had happened, roaring in anguish as it felt an intense, sharp pain from its long, thick, scale-armored tail.
Its suffering didn't end there, though, as Shye repeatedly struck the same area over and over again.
Then, after a few more seconds…
*SPURT!*
Burning scarlet blood splattered across the ground as half of the wyvern's enormous tail separated from its main body, landing on the ground a few meters away from the ongoing battle.
Naturally, the enormous draconian roared even louder in utter agony and immediately listened to its instincts of flying off, soaring skywards with multiple mighty flaps of its draconic wings.
To reorganize itself before fighting again? To flee? Shye didn't know.
However, although he already achieved his goal of fending off the dangerous creature, he now didn't want to let go of a potential kill that would increase his chances of winning—another case of his burgeoning greed trying to subtly control his decisions.
Well, it would truly be too glorious to slay an Ember Wyvern by himself, hence, Shye was naturally reluctant to let it go.
Quickly deciding to give chase, he temporarily swapped out his greatswords for elemental staffs.
'Frozen Thorn Barrage! Fire Bomb Assault'
Firing off his trusty barrage spells towards the Ember Wyvern, the enormous creature had no choice but to turn around to dodge the spells.
However, Shye didn't anticipate that the wyvern would decisively return and swoop down at him with its massive talons.
Fate finally chose to teach him a lesson regarding excessive greed—a lesson that he should've learned way earlier.
The Ember Wyvern's transition from fleeing to a ferocious counterattack was simply too smooth, and a single second of momentary confusion was all it took for him to lose the chance to get out of the massive creature's way.
As a result, the draconic creature's left talon managed to grab him on the waist, bringing him with it to the air.
'Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t!'
Shye wanted to struggle wildly, however, something inside him told him that it would be "uncool" to do so.
His life was already at risk, yet, he was still worrying about something stupid.
It seemed that there were more than just a "few" screws loose in his head.
'Do I actually have to crush the emergency talisman?'
