Chapter 21 Corrupted Mana Pt.3

"Jaaaaaay."

"Hm?...oh, Kana."

She stopped right in front of him, and leaned her hand on his chest, trying to catch her breath from all that running.

"Haha, where are you going looking so serious."

They began walking and he made little to no eye contact, if he did, she would immediately know his thoughts.

"Nowhere, i think i am just going to head home, its getting too late."

"Dude, its only 8....."

"...I am old, i need my sleep."

"You are 18..."

"..... i am actually sic-"

"stop the bullshit. where are you going?"

She stood in front him, arms on her hips, waiting for an answer. He stared at her and then tried to pass her many times but she stopped him each time. He was out of options, if he lied she would know because of her skill.

"dammit...i was going after Vell." He looked away, waiting for her to rage at the mention of his name but no yelling reached his ears. He turned his head confused as to why she was not raging but then she saw it, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"Vell...?"

"Kana, are you ok? what's wrong?"

He ran to her side, scanning her for any issues but there were none. She quickly wiped her tears, remembering how he looked the last time she saw him. After wiping away all her tears, she went back to normal.

"Vell was here?" Her tone was now distant and Jay knew exactly what that meant, she was serious now.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"Yeah, he came at the association to register as a player, oh so he led them to believe. he stole a registering core, which i am sure you know how valuable and rare they are. he escaped the city but i can't let him escape, now with such an important object."

"Do you truly believe that? look me in the eyes and tell me if you truly believe he did it?"

Her eyes glowed blue and Jay instantly tried looking away but she grabbed him by the chin and they locked eyes.

"well?"

"I don't know what's going on but please calm down sis, you are hurting me." He groaned in pain, tried to break free but she was too strong.

"Let me ask you this. does it make any sense for a normal human to escape a city full of players?" He let that question hang in the air, seeing that his reaction to the question was good, she asked again.

"Last time i am asking. do you think he did it?"

Jay's head hurt, it was though he was having a seizure. this went on for a few seconds and then he began crying, seeing this, she finally let him go and looked at her hand as a black smoke disappeared.

"you good now?"

"....kugh....I....HOW COULD I DO SUCH A THING TO HIM?"

Memories of how he treated him when he was being kicked out played in his mind. They way he threw his things and the pleading look he gave him, to listen to him but his eyes were full of disgust. These memories hurt him to his core, even tightly squeezing his chest did not help.

"It was not your fault...think about this carefully, when did we black out?"

He thought about her question, 'black out? what does she mean?' He continued digging deeper until he finally remember, the day everything happened.

"T-The....association?"

"exactly. We have much to talk about, brother."

She looked at him with eyes full of rage, not directed at him but at everyone else, she looked detached from life and only one goal kept her going. Jay was about to have his entire view on the world shifted.

----

back in the forest, Vell and the figure had a stare down, both assessing each other but Vell knew just from the mana the figure gave off, he was no match for it, not even close. Instead of risking his life in a pointless fight, he instead raised his hands as a sign of peace.

Yenna noticed him and sat up, wondering what he was doing until she saw the figure as well. Unlike her partner, she completely froze up in fear, to her it was like staring at death and her current mana level could not handle it, causing her to pass out.

[master, that thing is way too dangerous, have we perhaps left the city zone without realising?]

'I don't even know to be honest, let's just focus on not dying right now.'

[do you really think it understands you?]

'will know soo enough.'

[why don't you try taming it? looks strong.]

'dude, shut up.'

The figure jumped down quietly, and began walking towards him and he instinctively knew, one wrong move and he is goon but despite this, his eyes looked fearless. It stopped right in front of him, looking down at him with interest as the shadowy aura around it began to disappear.

It had a humanoid form but it was clearly not human. its black eyes with white pupils looked it him as if looking directly into his soul.

(What an interest smell you have, human.)

It spoke in a strange language but he understood it for some reason. He remained quiet, waiting to see what it will do.

(Are you curious how you can understand me despite being human? its simple really, you are not full human, not anymore.)

"what do you mean?" He finally spoke, lowering his hands slowly.

(I am not quite sure what you did to you body but whatever it was, it turned you into something fascinating. A human that can hold both types of mana and not only that, a human that has 3 core filled with both types of mana, its truly a fascinating sight.)

'he can see my cores? Just how powerful is this thing.'

"oh....."

He knew why this might have happened but he planned to think about that later.

(oh huh?, seems you are already aware of this. then i am assuming you absorbed corrupted mana knowing what it is, the more i learn, the more i am interest in you. )

"Yeah, I have learned a few tricks along the way.....is it ok if i know who or what you are?"

(hmmm, before that, try surviving this, i can't help my curiosity.)

A small black orb of mana appeared in it's hand and Vell instinctively jumped back, a chill running down his spine.

(Oh, not bad but still not enough.)

The orb vanished and appeared in front of him engulfing him and a sharp pain shot into his body.
