Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 129 Yin Yang High? More Like Monster High!

Lina followed Kai's gaze and saw that Coach Guanyu's gaze had already strayed from their side and was already directing his team. She sighed and turned to Kai once again.

"He's not," she said, causing Kai to frown.

"He was, though," Kai muttered. "He was even looking at us very sharply."

Lina sighed and focused her full attention on the stage.

"Well, maybe you saw wrong. Here's my advice for you—don't talk too much about Guanyu Chen."

Kai frowned in confusion. "Why not?" he asked.

Lina clicked her tongue, not even bothering to look at Kai.

"You're asking way too many questions," she remarked.

Kai raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Did...something happen?" he suddenly asked.

Lina shook her head. "Of course not. What would have happened?"

"I don't know," Kai shrugged. "You tell me. You're suddenly...irritated?"

Lina scoffed as she turned to him with a smile of disbelief.

"Irritated? Of course not!" she said in a fake-happy tone. "Why would I be irritated?"

"Yeah," Kai scratched the back of his neck. "Why would you be irritated when we won? Sorry, you must want to watch the game."

With that, Kai focused his attention on the game once again.

Meanwhile, Lina looked down at her lap before shaking her head. She didn't even know why she was feeling this way!

Kai was right—she should be happy that they had won the game.

However, why did It feel like she had lost in other aspects?

Just then, she realized that she looked straight down onto her lap—with nothing occluding her vision.

At that moment, the scene of the pretty girl hugging Kai a while back replayed in her mind. She could still vividly see her chest touching Kai's biceps. They seemed very cushiony, and it was almost unbelievable how a first-year student would have such anatomy!

In the meantime, Lina had nothing!

That thought made her sulk even further.

Was that the reason why she was so irritable?

"Whatever," she muttered, lifting her head and crossing her arms in front of her almost non-existent chest.

'It doesn't matter,' she thought. 'Zeren still likes me! There are a lot of boys who like me.'

However, as she glanced at Kai, who was right by her side, her mood turned sour once again.

Lina clicked her tongue. "I should have just gone home."

Just then, her thoughts were cut off when the court suddenly erupted into loud cheers. However, that wasn't what took her attention the most.

It was Kai holding onto her arm instead!

Her cheeks reddened as Kai continued holding onto her arm, squeezing it gently as if he was excited about what was coming next.

"What are you doing?" Lina asked despite feeling breathless.

Kai realized what he had done and quickly let go of her arm. Somehow, Lina missed the warmth of his hand. However, she shook the feeling away.

Maybe she was just getting sick!

"Max is finally playing," he said, excitement heard in his voice. Explore more at empire

Lina couldn't help but chuckle as he watched his excited gestures. His eyes couldn't be seen much because of his bangs, but it was obvious in his body language that he was very excited to see Max play.

"Haven't you watched him play before?" Lina asked.

Kai shook his head.

Of course, he had watched the Interhigh Nationals before when he was a first-year student at Huolan High. However, he never got around to watching the Yin Yang Knights since he only went to the games that the Huolan Guardians played in.

It seemed like the Knights hadn't crossed paths with the Guardians yet, so Kai was looking forward to seeing how they would play.

Moreover, since their last game commenced simultaneously with their game with the Daxue Dolphins, Kai wasn't able to watch them once again.

"Well, they're very good—that's all that I'm going to tell you," Lina said.

"There's a reason why they're dominating the basketball leagues in Jilin City."

"Max Zhou is the center of Yin Yang High's plays, but do not be fooled. The other players are also very skilled. Some teams underestimate those who aren't Max Zhou, and that's where they make a mistake. Their team is very complementary with each other.

If it weren't for Max Zhou, the team wouldn't thrive as much, and without his teammates, Maz Zhou would also not be able play to the best of his ability."

Kai nodded as he watched Max dribble the ball across the court. His breath instantly got caught in the back of his throat as he moved at an otherworldly speed.

Then, when Max jumped to shoot his first shot of the game, the crowd already erupted into cheers even though the ball was still in his hands.

"Max! Lightning Max! You've got the greatest impact!"

He even had a cheer that was dedicated just to him.

However, Kai couldn't really concentrate on it since he saw how high Max had jumped.

Kai frowned in concentration. If he could jump higher than 80% of basketball players in the country, then Max Zhou probably jumped 5% higher than him.

Kai shook his head. It seemed like he was truly a formidable opponent. Somehow, it motivated him to play even better against the Feng Foxes so they could secure their place in the finals.

Yuze also watched the game intently. Despite being in a weaker team, Yuze was hailed as one of the best players in the city.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

In fact, in a local newspaper, he was even hailed as the 5th most powerful player in the entire city. Yuze nodded in acknowledgment as Max was able to secure another point.

Then, Max smiled at the audience and waved at his fans, eliciting a very loud roar from the bleachers.

"This guy," Yuze muttered, shaking his head. "He must be everything their coach wants."

Kun heard what Yuze said and patted his back.

Meanwhile, Kai couldn't take his eyes away from Max Zhou. The way he moved was definitely different from all the other players on the court.

Somehow, he was reminded of how Feng Liu and Zheng Zhang played.

It merely strengthened his notion that players from the Elite Five were truly a different breed.

Just then, the loudest cheers of the day echoed in the walls of the court.

Kai couldn't help but exclaim, too, as Max maneuvered his way across the Stellar Rams without any assistance. He dribbled the ball on his own, guarded it with his own individual skill, and jumped to perform a slam dunk.

Then, without any hesitation, he slammed the ball inside the ring, causing the backboard to shake furiously as he hung onto it.

Kai watched the scene with an agape mouth.

"He's a monster," he muttered.
